محمد جان, خواب رفته را میشود به تلنگر و تکانی بیدار کرد اما آن که به خواب تظاهر میکند را هیچ تمهیدی به جز نفع و غرض شخصی هشیار نخواهد کرد. نکته جالب اینکه در هر دو انتخابات 2010 و 2011 دکتر مریدی حضور داشت و شاهد برپایی و عمومی برگزار شدن انتخابات است. دروغ عامل پیوست جامعه نیست بلکه چون شعور جامعه را به بازی میگیرد عامل دلسردی و پراکندگی ست. دوستانی هم که امروز "وا کنگره ا" میگویند هنوز از پذیرش نقطه شروع این کجروی پرهیز میکنند. در همان انتخابات 2012 من به برخی از این دوستان خطر پیش رو را گوشزد کردم اما متاسفانه روابط و رفاقت ها بر قانون و ضوابط غلبه کرد و امروز ما شاهدیم که آقای کاوه شهروز که خود به زور وتهدید و بدون داشتن شرایط لازم وارد کنگره شد, با شکستن قوانین کنگره این سازمان را وارد مسایل سیاسی و تشکیلاتی کرد, همه تاریخچه کنگره را, کم یا زباد, با تصمیم فردی خود پاک کرد و لوگوی کنگره را نیز تغییر داد, و در نهایت بدون توضیح عمومی از کنگره کناره گرفت, از طرف دوستان طرفدار شفافیت و قانونمندی به عنوان باز رس انتخابات برگزیده میشود. بد بختی ما این است که هبچکدام در مسیر درست نیستیم و تنها تفاوت ما نوع خطا هایمان است و بس.

برای اینکه موضع خودم را روشن کنم، مجمع عمومی بالاترین نهاد تصمیم گیری سازمان است و هر تصمیمی از طریق لایحه اعضا منجمله پذیرش نامزد شدن شخصی که شرایط اساسنامه را ندارد می تواند گرفته شود. من نه در سال ۲۰۱۲ و نه امسال به این مسئله اعتراضی نداشتم. اما اینکه هیئت مدیره لایحه اعضا را به مجمع معرفی نکند یا در قرار دادن نامزد ها در لایحه معافیت تفاوت قائل شود یا نامزدهایی را که شرایط متفاوتی دارند بدون مشاوره با آنها در یک لایحه قرار دهد قابل اعتراض است و همیشه و هر جا فارغ از اینکه چه کسانی آن را انجام دهند با آن مخالف خواهم بود. ضمناً من شخصاً در مجمع عمومی سال ۲۰۱۱ (اگر در مورد سال اشتباه نکنم؟) شرکت کردم و هیچ انتخاباتی برگزار نشد. عجیب آنکه حدود یک ساعت اعضایی که چون من برای انتخابات رفته بودند، در شگفتی انتظار کشیدند تا بالاخره خانم جوانفر سوال کردند و متوجه شدیم که انتخاباتی در کار نیست چون نامزد به تعداد کافی نیست!

ارسلان جان, ممنون از شهادتت. در دو سالی که انتخابات صورت نگرفت هیچ کسی تمایلی به کاندیدا شدن نشان نداد بدون اینکه محدودیت و یا شرایطی برای علاقه مندان بجز آنچه در اساسنامه ذکر شده بود ایجاد شده باشد. . در طول یکی دو ماه قبل از انتخابات دایما آگهی برای اطلاع رسانی از انتخابات و تشویق به شرکت در نشریات به چاپ رسید و روی سایت کنگره هم رفت. وظیفه هیئت مدیره در زمان موعود برپایی مجمع عمومی بود حتی اگر کاندیدی وجود نداشت که اینکار صورت گرفت. افرادی که عضو هیئت مدیره وقت بودند دو انتخاب داشتند, یا کنگره را ببندند و یا تا سال و انتخابات بعد ادامه دهند. در همان سال ها, که امروز به لطف دوستان نه از آن خاطره ای نقل میشود و نه مدرکی بجا مانده, یکی از تلاش ها اصلی ما سعی در ایجاد ارتباط با سازمان های فعال غیر انتفاعی جامعه ایرانی بود. بارها ما برای آنها نامه رسمی فرستادیم و دعوت کردیم که هر کدام یک نفر را برای تشکیل هیأت مشاوره معرفی کنند تا برنامه ریزی فعالیت های کنگره در هماهنگی با نیاز های جامعه باشد ولی متاسفانه هیچکدام پاسخی به ما ندادند. اما وقتی برای معرفی این سازمان ها به دکتر اریک هاسکینز و درخواست حمایت مالی و غیره برای آنها دعوتشان کردیم همه آمدند و چند گروه هم تابع همان جلسه موفق شدند گرانت دریافت کنند. در أن زمان من از پریا استعفا داده بودم و شخصا رابطه مثبتی با آقای تبریزی نداشتم اما یکی از کسانی که بر حضور پریا در این جلسه و بقیه موارد تاکید فراوان داشت من بودم و گمان میکنم که محمد تاجدولتی عزیز هم هنوز بیاد داشته باشد. در هر حال علیرغم فروتنی و سکوت اکثر دوستان آن دوره من باور دارم که شاید فاصله بین 2008 تا 2012 از سلامت ترین دوره های این سازمان بود حتی اگر بدلیل پاک کرده شدن سابقه اش, که ظاهرا طبق قوانین جرم محسوب میشود, مدرک چندانی برای ارائه وجود نداشته باشد

Report ICC April 18th 2011:

On Saturday April 16, 2011, Iranian Canadian Congress, in line with its objective of engaging the community in Canada’s politics and society, held an all candidate debate session in North York Civic Centre.
ICC primary focus was on the ridingshost the most Iranian-Canadians population and so invitations were made to candidates from three major parties, namely Progressive Conservative, Liberal and New Democratic parties, from Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Willowdale and Markham-Oak Ridges.
The following candidates honored our invitation and except for Mr. Simon Strelchik attended the debate:

•    Karen Mock, Liberal from Thornhill riding
•    Bryon Wilfert, Liberal from Richmond Hill riding
•    LuiTemelkovski, Liberal from Markham- Oak Ridges riding
•    Adam Devita. NDP from Richmond Hill riding
•    Mehdi Mollahasani, NDP from Willowdale riding
•    Simon Strelchik, NDP from Thornhill riding
•    Janice Hagan, NDP from Markham-Oak Ridges riding

Some short facts:

•           The session was chaired by Mr.Alidad Mafinezam, a board member of ICC.

•           Unfortunately Progressive Conservative candidates did not accept attending the
            debate and mostly did not return any of the correspondences.

•           During the debates each of the candidates started with an 8 minute introduction
            and each expressed their goals and visions of how they would represent their
            ridings if they take office.

•           No real debate took place as almost everyone shared the same concerns about
            how conservative party is dealing with issues like budget cuts for ethnic
            communities, future of health care and renewable energy policy, etc..

•           NDP candidates spoke a few words on “Strategy Votes” and encouraged everyone
            to vote for the best candidate they see fit and to honor the essence of a democratic
            process.

After the 8 minutes introductions a few of the attendees had the chance to address candidates and also to express their concerns:

•           There was a concern on to why ICC and organizers did not invite the Green Party
            candidates and why the three other parties do not get engage in debating with the
            party as a whole.

•           New tougher immigration process and visa issuance to family of the immigrants
            was a big concern among all. Issues of reducing number of staff at some
            embassies, and prolonging process of granting Visas especially through family
            sponsorships were brought up.

•           Aging population dilemma and how inappropriate budget allocation by Harper
            government is hurting the population was also discussed.

At the end Mrs. Sholeh Khalili, Vice president at Iranian Canadian Congress took the thanking all the attendees for their participation to this gathering and expressed ICC wishes that it can further service the community as well as Canadian society by holding more of the same events in future elections.

روز دوم ماه می 2011 انتخابات سراسری برای گزینش نمایندگان پارلمان کانادا برگزار می‌شود. شرکت در این انتخابات علاوه بر یک حق شهروندی یک وظیفه نیز هست و هریک از ما شهروندان کانادایی، با هر پیشینه و وابستگی قومی، فرهنگی، زبانی و ملیتی که باشیم، حق و وظیفه داریم با شناخت هرچه بیشتر از کاندیداها و برنامه‌های حزب‌های سیاسی که به آن تعلق دارند، نمایندگان مورد اعتماد خود را انتخاب کنیم.

Letter To Minister Cannon-Saeed Malekpour

On behalf of our board and members, I would like to express my deepest concerns about the life of Saeed Malekpour, a permanent resident of Canada of Iranian descent.

Mr. Malekpour has been held captive in Iran's notorious Evin prison since 2008 and has more recently been sentenced to death. While the number of (political) executions has been on a dramatic rise in the Islamic Republic of Iran over the past few months, certain developments in the past few days are particularly troubling for the case of Mr. Malekpour.

On January 29, 2011, the Iranian authorities executed an Iranian-Dutch citizen, Zahra Bahrami. This latest execution came as a shock to many observers of Iranian politics, sending the message that the Iranian government does not intend to give any protection to Iranians with a second citizenship or residence status.

One day after Ms. Bahrami's execution, the Tehran Prosecutor was quoted as saying that the death sentences issued to two administrators of pornographic websites have been referred to Iran’s Supreme Court for confirmation and approval. Most observers of Iranian politics have taken this quote to be a reference to the case of Saeed Malekpour.

Given this background, we feel that Saeed Malekpour’s execution may be very imminent. We are therefore writing to pledge that the Canadian government takes some expeditious measures to possibly prevent the Iranian authorities from ending Mr. Malekpour’s life.

Dear Minister Flaherty,

On behalf of our members and board, I am writing to bring an issue of critical concern to the Iranian-Canadian community to your attention.

As you know, in the past few weeks, Canadian banks have begun the process of closing Money Service Business accounts (MSBs) belonging to Iranian-Canadians, and imposing new restrictions of the financial activities of the Iranian-Canadian community.

Since this issue has also been brought to your attention by the letter recently written to you by Ontario's finance minister, honourable Dwight Duncan, we feel it is necessary to re-emphasize the ways in which Canada's current approach is unintentionally hurting Iranian-Canadians and the Canadian economy.

Our office has been inundated with calls by students, new immigrants, retirees, and numerous business owners who have been placed in a state of extreme uncertainty regarding their financial transactions, which go well beyond Iran. In some cases, real estate transactions in Toronto have been cancelled due to new arrivals from Iran not being to receive their own funds from Iran.

We are highly concerned (as mentioned in minister Duncan's letter to you) that the arbitrary and ad-hoc nature of the recent regulations harms our community and the broader Canadian society.

We would like to request a meeting with you regarding the nature of the new regulations, and the extent to which you can show sensitivity to the plight of law abiding Canadians who hail from Iran.

Please let us know when we can have a meeting with you (in Ottawa or preferably in your constituency office in Whitby) to discuss this pressing matter.

Letter to Honourable Stephen Harper

To the Honorable Stephen Harper

The Board of Directors of the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) is writing to express its serious concern regarding the current events in Iran following the presidential election on June 12, 2009.

ICC supports the Iranian people’s right to a fair and free election and their genuine effort to exercise their civil rights. Therefore, ICC objects to the highly repressive measures taken by the government of Iran in its attempt to curb any dissenting response to the results of the recent presidential election.

Following the election, Tehran and many other Iranian cities have been the scenes of wide-spread protests. These protests have been met by violent response from the anti-riot police and other security forces resulting in civilian injuries and death. Furthermore, a number of Iranian political activists and journalists have been arrested and heavy restrictions have been placed on the means of communication and the media. ICC condemns the use of violence and calls for the release of those who have been arrested. ICC is also concerned about the safety of the Iranian-Canadians residing in Iran.

ICC supports a legal and peaceful resolution to the crisis and requests that the allegations brought forward by the candidates and voters be addressed in a legal and transparent manner by the appropriate Iranian authorities.

ICC urges the government of Canada to be watchful of the events in Iran and to refrain from recognizing the Iranian government until the allegations regarding election fraud has been fully addressed. We also urge the government of Canada to condemn the use of violence in Iran.

Meet With Minister Jason Kenny

On June 12, 2009 honorable Jason Kenny, federal Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism met with three ICC board members: Firoozeh Rose Bahrami, Mehrdad Loghmani, and Behnam Esfahanizadeh. ICC had requested this meeting to discuss the concerns of the Iranian-Canadian community especially regarding the high rate of rejection of visitor visas and mistreatment of applicants at the Canadian embassy in Iran.

Minister Kenny stated he has deep respect for the Iranian-Canadian community who are well educated and making significant contributions economically, culturally, and academically to Canadian society. He acknowledged that the federal government has not had adequate contact with the Iranian community in Canada, especially in comparison to other ethnic communities, and would like to change that. In order to do so, community organizations such as ICC could act as a bridge to establish this continuous and effective dialogue between the government and the community to help the government understand the diversity and the needs of the Iranian community.

ICC board members informed the Minister that the Iranian-Canadian community is alarmed by the low rate of visas granted to Iranians in general, and Iranian artists and academics in particular. The community is also concerned about the insufficient consular capacity of the Canadian embassy in Tehran, and the unprofessional and sometimes disrespectful way in which visa applicants, especially the elderly, are treated.

Minister Kenney, while maintaining that he could not comment on the immigration officers’ decisions, acknowledged that there have been some difficulties with respect to the embassy in Tehran and they hope to make some changes in their Tehran office soon. With respect to the insufficient capacity of the embassy he responded that the government of Canada faces many challenges in Tehran for instance it is very difficult for them to obtain visas for their Foreign Service officers and their families from the government of Iran. He promised that the visa situation in Iran will improve. He also commented that even though the general rate of visitor visas granted has been lower in the past year, the Ministry has been able to act quickly and effectively in cases involving refugees and humanitarian grounds.

ICC representatives also indicated that the Iranian-Canadian community is concerned that Canada’s federal government has not made significant investments in the well being of the community. Nor has it spent resources on outreach and research efforts related to the community in the GTA, Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal, and other Canadian cities.

As Minister of multiculturalism, Minister Kenny stated that his Ministry is committed to providing resources for outreach and positive initiatives within the communities and that his office will give us more information about how we can work together to address these concerns.

We also indicated that we would like the minister and other federal representatives to attend our community gatherings and events more often in order to increase understanding. In his closing remarks Minister Kenny stated that he would love to attend our events and was hopeful to continue this dialogue and to increase the contact between the Canadian federal government and the Iranian community through ICC.

پس از آن تا پایان اقامت دو هفته ای در کانادا برنامه های مختلف و دیدارهای گوناگون داشتم. روز دو شنبه با آقای سلطان پور به مرکز شهر رفتیم و در دادگاه یک جوان ایرانی به نام محمود یادگاری شرکت کردیم. ایشان به اتهام حمل غیر قانونی سه قطعه وسیله ای که کاربرد دوگانه داشته و برای سلاح هسته ای نیز قابل استفاده بوده به ایران محاکمه می شد. او حدود یک سالی را در زندان است و در این زمان مشکلات زیادی برایش پیش آمده است. کارش و خانه اش را به دلیل عدم پرداخت قسط از دست داده و همسر تازه وضع حمل کرده اش ناچار راهی ایران شده است. دوساعتی در دادگاه حضور داشتیم. دلیل رفتن دو چیز بود یکی این که سلطان پور خبرنگار بود و به اقتضای کارش حضور می یافت و دیگر این که می خواست به عنوان یک هم وطن در دادگاه حضور داشته باشد و از هم وطن خود نوعی حمایت کرده باشد. وقتی ایشان تصمیم خود را برای شرکت در دادگاه گفت من هم علاقه مند شدم که حضور داشته باشم چرا که من هم اولا مایل بودم به نوبه خود از یک ایرانی حمایت کرده باشم و ثانیا مفید بود که حداقل اجلاس دادگاهی در کانادا را از نزدیک دیده ببینم. فقط یک ایرانی دیگر در دادگاه بود و این دو دوست از این که ایرانیان همت نکرده و در چنین دادگاهی حاضر نشده اند، گله می کردند. می گفتند اگر یک یهودی در چنین دادگاهی و به چنین اتهامی محاکمه می شد، الان اینجا پر از یهودی بود.

ژانویه 2015

اگر یک ایرانی درگیر مشکل قانونی میگردد، کنگره موظف است به او کمک نماید؟ بطور مثال آیا کامیونیتی میباید از ژیان قمیشی حمایت کند؟

در سال 2009 یک ایرانی به نام محمود یادگاری به جرم ارسال لوازم ممنوعه به ایرانی در کانادا دستگیر، محاکمه و محکوم به چهار سال حبس میگردد. عده ای از اعضاء به حمایت کنگره از این فرد اعتراض داشته که این اعتراض تا این زمان هم ادامه دارد. جهت روشن شدن اذهان لازم دیدیم که کلیه اطلاعات را در این زمینه جمع آوری کنیم. لطفن اگر شما هم اطلاعاتی در این زمینه دارید ما را کمک کنید.

بهنام اصفهانی زاده از گروه تورنتو ایرانیز و دو ایرانی دیگر تنها کسانی بودند که در دادگاه که الان فرصت طلبان مدعی کشف آن شده اند ، حضور داشتند در کل 7 نفر دردادگاه ازاد بودند . 3 ایرانی - دو مامور سازمان امنیت و پلیس کانادا - دو خبرنگار کانادایی .
