Community Consultation: 2019 Election Priorities

What are the issues and problems that you want the federal government to address?

Dear Members and Supporters of the Iranian Canadian Congress,

We are excited to announce we have started our 2019 Federal Election Consultation! The ICC and its policy team will be holding an intensive consultation process which will include a series of online surveys, in person consultation sessions, as well as lectures about the topics you have expressed interest in!

What do you prioritize as we enter the 2019 Federal Election? This could be anything from changes in our tax system, economic policies, immigration, democratic institutional reform, foreign policy, environmental/climate change initiatives, child-care, to Canada's health-care system, etc.

Please click here for the online consultation form.

Please write in the space provided what you want to see from your federal government. Tell us, as an Iranian-Canadian, what are the issues and problems that you want the federal government to address?

This is the first step in our consultation process. In this first step we want to hear all your ideas and suggestions with no filter and in no particular order.

Your input will help us to put together a strong and diverse platform of policy priorities that are important for Iranian-Canadians.

Please click here for the online consultation form.

 Sincerely,

Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC)

image of Canada Must Support Peace & Diplomacy With Iran

The government of Prime Minister Trudeau has said that it supports the nuclear agreement with Iran and does not agree with Trump's irresponsible withdrawal from the agreement. However, the government has not taken any concrete steps in preserving the nuclear agreement. Furthermore, the anti-Iran lobby groups have increased their activities in Ottawa in recent months trying to convince the federal government to support Trump's pressure and sanctions campaign against Iran.

We believe Canada must support peace and diplomacy with Iran.

Sanctions, coercive tactics and foreign imposed regime change policies have proved to be disasterous and destablizing in the Middle East.

Join us and ask your Members of Parliament to support peace and diplomacy with Iran.

UPDATE:

Canada Must Support Peace and Diplomacy With Iran

As parliament goes back into session, I am writing to urge you to take 2019 as an opportunity to stand up against the illegal sanctions imposed on Iran by the Trump administration and to ensure Canada supports diplomacy and constructive engagement with Iran.

The current sanctions placed on Iran by the United States are in violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231. These sanctions hurt ordinary Iranian civilians as well as many Iranian-Canadians. The Iranian currency, the Rial, lost its value significantly since Trump decided to unilaterally withdraw from the nuclear agreement and reimpose sanctions on the country. The drop in currency value and staggering levels of inflation constitute tremendous economic pressure and hardships for the people of Iran.

Furthermore, these US sanctions have severely impacted Iraniansí access to life-saving medicine. The US has listed several Iranian pharmaceuticals in their sanctions list. This, along with banking sanctions severely limits Iranís ability to even purchase medicine and humanitarian goods. Reputable Iranian civil society organizations, independent activists and academics are warning about the devastating impact of the sanctions on those who need medical care in Iran. Many of these patients are children - including children who are living with cancer but cannot access or cannot afford the treatment they need to fight for their lives.

As my representative in the Parliament of Canada I request that you urge the Federal Government to:

- Support the efforts of our European allies in preserving the nuclear agreement with Iran and join the EU special payment system to facilitate lawful trade and financial transactions with Iran.

- Publicly speak against Trumpís pressure and sanctions campaign against Iran on the world stage and support UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

- Support diplomacy with Iran on the world stage.

- Fulfill the Governmentís promise to re-establish diplomatic relations with Iran in order to provide consular services to Iranian-Canadians and adequately advocate for the release of Iranian-Canadians held in Iran.

- Refrain from imposing any additional sanctions against Iran and oppose efforts of the pro-sanctions lobby groups in Ottawa that support President Donald Trumpís irresponsible withdrawal from the Nuclear Deal and his destabilizing policies towards Iran.

- Facilitate the transfer of humanitarian goods including medicine and medical equipment from Canada to Iran.

- Work with the United Nations and Iranian civil society organizations to ensure that US sanctions do not block Iranians' access to humanitarian goods, including medicine and healthcare needs.
