Dear Members of the Iranian Canadian Congress,

The ICC Election Committee is proud to announce the following:

1) A successful and transparent election was held on Sunday, May 24, 2015 with polls open from 11am to 4:45pm;

2) Of the 1530 Members who were eligible to vote, 890 members did so. 663 number voted in person, while 227 number voted by proxy;

3) Counting of the ballots commenced after 6pm before all candidates, their scrutineers, members of the ICC board, and members of our community and media. A total of 889 ballots were cast. The final vote count was as follows:

4) There was one objection to the vote count by one of the candidates; the candidate withdrew this complaint, however, choosing not to file a formal complaint in accordance with the procedures set by the election committee. Nonetheless, given that the particular vote counting station for which concern was raised was the most scrutinized, had the closest range of votes between all 8 candidates, that the three scrutineers in observance of that station were in agreement with the final vote count, and the gap between the votes for the first four candidates versus the last four, the election committee did not find there to be sufficient grounds to order a recount of that station’s ballots.

5) As promised, the personal information of those who voted by way of a proxy will be destroyed by the election committee. The committee thanks voters for trusting the committee with their personal information in our efforts to safeguard against any concerns of irregularity that may have been raised.

First Announcement from Election Committee of the Iranian Canadian Congress

Dear respected members of the Iranian Canadian Congress,

This is to inform you that the Election Committee of ICC that has been appointed by the Board of Directors as per Bylaw (As per Section 3, number 5), despite all the shortfalls existing in the bylaw and other difficulties, would like to announce its commitment to conducting a transparent, democratic election on May 24, 2015.

In pursuit of this process we would like to inform you as follows:

1) Pursuant to the Bylaws (Section 5, part 1,2,and 4) and as per previous announcement sent to the members via email and the AGM announcement published in Community press by the Board of Directors, the Annual General Meeting of the Iranian-Canadian Congress will be held on May 24, 2015. More information could be obtained at: www.iccongress.ca

2) For members' convenience, early voting will commence at 11am on May 24, 2015 at the North York Civic Centre.

3) In order to be eligible to vote, members are required to provide a valid Canadian picture ID which has been issued in Ontario (i.e. Driver's License, Health Card, Etc).

4) For proxy voting, members that hold proxies are required to provide the proxy form along with a valid Canadian picture ID which has been issues in Ontario of the proxy giver in order to be eligible to vote. To obtain a copy of the proxy form, kindly refer to the: http://iccongress.ca/articles/icc-election-2015-proxy-vote-form

5) As per the announced Agenda by the Board of Directors, the Annual General Meeting will commence after 2:00 pm.

6) The voting will conclude at 4:30pm.

7) The Election Committee is authorized to extend the voting period as deemed necessary.

8) All Media and press representatives are welcome to participate and provide full coverage of the Annual General Meeting. It is imperative that participants' privacy as well as the anonymous nature of the voting ballots be respected.

9) All Candidates running at the upcoming election are entitled to provide one scrutineer to monitor the entire election process. The election committee will not intervene with the selection of the scrutineers. The election committee will provide more details to the Candidates and their scrutineer directly.

10) Pursuant to Section 5, item 6 of the bylaw, the outcome of the election will be only valid if 50% plus(+) 1 current members of the ICC participate in the Annual General Meeting. This constitutes the quorum and it is currently being determined by the committee based on the input of the Board of Directors as per membership deadline of May 17, 2015. If this requirement is not met for any reason, the outcome of the election is void. If such a scenario occurs, the By-Law of the organization require the Board of Directors to hold another Annual General Meeting; the outcome of that AGM will be valid regardless of whether quorum is met. We encourage all members of the ICC to attend the AGM in order to achieve the necessary quorum since much effort has been invested into the election preparation.

11) For the approval of the Treasurer report and the Financial statements, the majority attending the AGM floor shall be sufficient.

(2) The outcome of election will be announced after all ballots have been counted by the election committee which will be reflected immediately on the website of the organization.

13) All disputes and complaints of the candidates shall be raised within the first hour after the announcement of election outcome, and shall be accompanied by proof of the complanit and a list of witnesses. The election committee has the full authority to accept or reject the complaints.

14) All inquires relating to the elections should be communicated to the election committee via: iccelection2015@gmail.com

In conclusion, once again, we would like to encourage all members to participate at the upcoming election. We would like to kindly ask respected members, and representatives of Media and Press to avoid dissemination of wrongful facts that will cause members to be discourages from participation and mistrust in the organization, and to base their reports on the announcements made via iccongress.ca.

Your participation and support will assist the Election Committee to better fulfill its commitment to conducting a democratic and transparent election.

May 24 - Reza Ghazi I as the treasure of the organization never paid this law firm a penny with respect to this opinion. Hence, this opinion was only obtained by the ruling majority (in their own capacities) and claiming that it was obtained by the entire board is misrepresentation of facts. It is not appropriate to be shared via ICC'S communication channels.

May 25 Reza Ghazi Mrs. Khodakhah and I am being transparent. Is there something wrong with that? The opinion that 3 of us obtained was never shared via ICC communication channels and just like these folks, we paid for it ourselves.

May 25 - Reza Ghazi Why should they have the right to share the message they wanted to force on public using these channels and we dont? Some sort of double standard right? Just for your information - we would have never and will never conduct such actions. You will be the witness.

May 25 Reza Ghazi Mrs. Khodakhah - If the leadership wouldn't have acted so one way (this post is a great example), I for one would have never had anything against anyone -I don't take things personally. Collaborative leadership is what ICC requires.

The Iranian Canadian Congress wishes to take this opportunity to commend your office for demanding the immediate release of the seven members of the B’ahai community and other prisoners of conscience, such as Ms. Narges Mohammadi, in Iran. We are grateful for the Canadian government’s attention to the repeated patterns of repression and abuse of basic human rights at the hands of Islamic Republic officials.

Pursuant to your office’s diligent efforts, the Iranian Canadian Congress would like to add the names of two Iranian-Canadians who have recently been inexplicably imprisoned inside Iran. It has come to our attention that Mr. Mostafa Azizi, a TV producer and screenwriter, was arrested by the authorities shortly after visiting his family in Iran in December 2014. It has been reported by members of the media that he was arrested on charges of insulting Iran’s leader, insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran and threatening Iran’s national security in cyberspace. Reassured by President Hassan Rouhani’s statements promising the safe return and passage of dissident Iranians to their homeland, Mr. Azizi returned to Iran to care for his ailing father.

Mr. Saeed Malekpour is another member of the Iranian-Canadian community who has been imprisoned for the past five years in Iran for similar charges.

The Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) is deeply concerned about the safety and wellbeing of Mr. Azizi and Mr. Malekpour as they are being held in the notorious Evin prison where the Iranian-Canadian Zahra Kazemi was jailed, abused and murdered in 2003.

We respectfully request your office’s assistance in urgently drawing attention to Messrs. Azizi and Malekpour, and to take any and all reasonably possible steps to ensure their safety and immediate release. We are most grateful for your kind attention and assistance regarding their cases, in advance.

Introducing Election Committee Members

Board of Directors of the ICC has selected and appointed the three members of the Election Committee in its Board meeting dated May 11, 2015 to manage and overlook the Election process based on the Bylaws of the ICC. Names of the Election Committee members:

Mr. Salman Sima, previous election experience

Board of Director of the ICC will hand over the entire election process and decision making for any issues regarding that to the above 3 member Election Committee and will follow all instructions conveyed to the BOD by the Election Committee.

Membership Renewal & Payment instruction All members who attended the 2014 AGM will be considered members in good standing and will be able to vote. Their membership fees could be remitted either at the 2015 AGM OR via e-transfer through info@iccongress.ca by June 10 2015. 2015 ICC AGM Proxy Application Form For those of you who will not be able to attend the 2015 ICC AGM but would like to vote by way of proxy ballot, we ask that you complete the attached Proxy Application Form and designate an individual to act as your proxy holder to vote on your behalf at the AGM.

In order to obtain your ballot, your proxy holder will have to have your completed proxy form along with a photocopy of your government issued ID (Driver's licence, Health Card, Passport, etc). To respect privacy rights, the photocopies of the IDs will not be retained by the ICC and will only be viewed at the time of registration for verification purposes. Please also note that each Member is entitled to act as a proxy holder on behalf of one other member only.

Bijan Ahmadi - بیژن احمدی

I started my community work in 2007 during my undergrad years at UofT where I led the Iranian Students' Union as the Treasurer and President for two years. After graduating from university and completing my Master’s degree in Civil Engineering I continued being active in different volunteer engagements while focusing on my professional career in real estate development. In recent years through partnership with several credible charity organizations, I have launched multiple fundraising campaigns to support underprivileged children in Iran and Canada. Currently, I am sitting on the board of the Canadian Chapter of the Omid Foundation. Omid Foundation is a registered charity in Iran, U.K and U.S and a non-profit organization in Canada that supports abused and vulnerable young women in Iran. In terms of political activism, I have been involved in the Liberal Party (both in the provincial and the federal level) as an active volunteer since 2007 and in 2014 I served as one of the Vice Presidents of the Willowdale Federal Liberal Association. To encourage engagement of our community in the ICC I founded and led the "I'm an Iranian-Canadian too" campaign during the past 12 months. Together with around 40 campaign volunteers we were able to speak to thousands of Iranians in the GTA about the ICC and signed up around 600 new members. The lack of dedication and commitment in the ICC leadership in recent years has been a contributing factor to the failures of the organization. I have decided to run for the ICC Board to change these ongoing issues. With 8 years of experience in volunteer work and knowledge I've gained about expectations of my community from the ICC during the past 12 months I believe I have the skillset and qualifications necessary to successfully lead the ICC in the right direction.  

فعالیت اجتماعی خود را ۸ سال قبل در هیئت مدیره اتحادیه دانشجویان ایرانی‌ دانشگاه تورنتو آغاز کردم. پس از دریافت مدرک فوق لیسانس مهندسی‌ ساختمان در کنار کار حرفه‌ای فعالیتهای داوطلبانه را نیز ادامه دادم. با همکاری تعدادی از خیریه‌های معتبر توانستم چندین کمپین برای جمع‌آوری کمک‌های خیریه به نفع کودکان نیازمند در ایران و در کانادا برنامه ریزی کنم. در حال حاضر عضو هیئت مدیره بنیاد غیر انتفاعی امید در کانادا هستم. خیریه امید در ایران مراکزی را برای کمک به زنان جوان نیازمند راه اندازی کرده است. از سال ۲۰۰۷ در حزب لیبرال فعال هستم و در هیئت مدیره حزب لیبرال در منطقه ویلودیل به مدت یک سال فعالیت کردم.  با تاسیس کمپین من هم یک ایرانی‌ کانادایی هستم در طول ۱۲ ماه گذشته تلاش کردم قدم مثبتی را برای کنگره بردارم. با کمک داوطلبین کمپین توانستیم حدود ۶۰۰ عضو را برای کنگره ثبت نام کنیم. در طول این کمپین با صدها ایرانی‌ کانادایی در رابطه با کنگره و انتظارت آنان از این سازمان صحبت کردم. انتظاراتی که متأسفانه اکثرا برآورده نشده است. انتظار به کار و فعالیت به جای صدور بیانیه‌های پی‌ در پی‌، انتظار شفافیت و پاسخ گویی ، انتظار ارایه خدمات به اقشار مختلف جامعه ایرانی‌ کانادایی: جوانانی که دنبال کار هستند، تازه واردین به کانادا، و یا سالمندانی که در تنهایی‌ و غربت به سر میبرند. بر این عقیده‌ام که برای اینکه کنگره بتواند اکثر انتظارات جامعه را برآورده کند نیاز به کار و تلاش مستمر و مدیریتی توانمند دارد تا بتواند با همیاری اعضا کنگره را به پیش برد. بر همین اساس تصمیم گرفتم که خود را نامزد عضویت در هیئت مدیره کنگره ایرانیان کانادا کنم. باور دارم که با تکیه بر تجربه خود در فعالیت‌های اجتماعی و شناخت کنگره میتوانم نقش مثبتی در ایجاد تغیرات اساسی‌ در این سازمان ایفا کنم.  

Hushang Firuzi - هوشنگ فیروزی

My name is Hushang Firuzi. I have my master of engineering degree form Polytechnics University Of Tehran. During my carrier back home I had the honour of being part of engineering team that managed projects like extension of the university of Tehran to build roads in southern part of IRAN any many other large projects.
 

My Family and I immigrated to Canada in 1991. Even though I'm a semi-retired professional, I still am self-employed, like to be part of my Iranian Canadian community, and help our community to flourish in Canada. I believe with my background and experience, I can play an effective role in such an important task.

I am a social activist and I have been volunteering to help Iranian seniors since 1998.  

Shahla Ghafouri - شهلا غفوری

Mrs. Ghafouri is a teacher with the Toronto District School Board. She immigrated to Canada in 1991. Mrs. Ghafouri has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Iranian Canadian Congress since two years ago. She also is the chair of the Cultural Committee of the ICC and since its creation in 2014 she has run several successful cultural events for the ICC. Mrs. Ghafouri is a very active member of the Iranian community, and other than ICC, she was a co-founder and director of the Chahrshnbeh Souri Fire Festival in Richmond Hill. Mrs. Ghafouri is also a humanitarian activist and provides material and moral support to Iranian new comers. 

Soudeh Ghassemi - سوده قاسمی

After immigrating to Canada from Iran in late 2004, I further pursued my education and career and hold Honours Bachelor of Commerce from Laurentian University and working towards my CPA designation. I am fluent in both Farsi and English allowing me to better connect with my fellow Iranian-Canadians. Presently, I am lecturing at The School of Accounting and Financial Services at Seneca College and working as an Accounting Manager and consultant at Castle Mountain Mining Company as well as the Buchan Family Charity Foundation. Prior to this, I worked at the McCarney Greenwood LLP Chartered Accountants with a focus on public accounting and auditing. I run my own accounting and consulting business providing personal and corporate accounting services. I am compassionate about giving back to the community and have volunteered my time as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the OMID foundation Toronto chapter that empowers disadvantaged young women in Iran and the Liberal Party of Canada during the provincial election and federal nomination for the Richmond Hill riding. I have also been heavily involved in the “I am Iranian-Canadian too” Campaign helping Iranian-Canadians become better acquainted with the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) and encourage them to join the ICC to strengthen their participation in addressing issues facing Iranians within Canada. I am a strong supporter of promoting and protecting the rights, freedoms and interests of all Iranians in Canada while encouraging Iranian-Canadians to achieve unity in order to reach our common goals. I hope to maintain this initiative if elected as a board member of the Iranian Canadian Congress.

Arsalan Kahnemuyipour -  ارسلان کهنمویی پور

I was born in Abadan but spent most of my youth in Tehran until I moved to Canada with my wife, Kamnoosh Shahabi, in 1998. I completed a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Sharif University and a Master’s degree in TEFL at Allameh Tabatabaei University. I started my graduate studies in Linguistics at the University of Toronto in 1998 and received my PhD degree in 2004. I then accepted a position at Syracuse University and worked there for six years. In 2010, I returned to Canada and resumed a faculty position at the University of Toronto, where I have worked since. Kamnoosh and I have two children, Sabah 14 and Soroosh 10.    I have always been engaged in social and cultural activities. During my years at Sharif University, I was a founding member of a very active Film Club. In 1999, several friends and I founded the Iranian Association at the University of Toronto (IAUT), still a successful cultural organization some fifteen years after we left its board. I became a member of the Iranian Canadian Congress shortly after my return to Canada in 2010. In the past two years I have been very active trying to establish some basic democratic principles such as transparency, accountability and the rule of law in this important organization. I was an active member of ICC’s Policy Development Committee, where we spent tens of hours on revisions to the organization’s bylaws. Most recently, I played a central role in the member-initiated campaign “I am an Iranian-Canadian too”, where, with the help of many volunteers, we managed to sign up hundreds of new members for ICC. The opportunity to speak to scores of community members has given me the energy and dedication to pursue the principles I stand for as an ICC board member.

من متولد آبادان هستم ولی‌ بیشتر دوران جوانی‌‌ام را در تهران گذراندم. دارای مدرک کارشناسی مهندسی‌ برق از دانشگاه صنعتی شریف و مدرک کارشناسی ارشد آموزش زبان از دانشگاه علامه طباطبائی هستم. در سال ۱۹۹۸ به همراه همسرم کامنوش شهابی به کانادا مهاجرت کردم، تحصیلات خود را در رشته زبان شناسی‌ در دانشگاه تورنتو ادامه دادم و در سال ۲۰۰۴ مدرک دکتری خود را دریافت کردم. در این زمان به هیأت علمی‌ دانشگاه سیراکیوز پیوستم و به مدت شش سال در آنجا مشغول کار بودم. در سال ۲۰۱۰ به هیأت علمی‌ دانشگاه تورنتو پیوستم  و هم اکنون در این دانشگاه مشغول به تدریس و تحقیق هستم. کامنوش و من صاحب دو فرزند هستیم: صبا (۱۴ ساله) و سروش (۱۰ ساله).   من همیشه به فعالیتهای اجتماعی و فرهنگی‌ علاقه‌مند بوده ام. در دانشگاه شریف، یکی‌ از موسسین گروه فیلم بودم که در این دانشگاه بسیار فعال بود. در سال ۱۹۹۹، به همراه تنی چند از دوستان، کانون ایرانیان دانشگاه تورنتو را تاسیس کردیم که امروز، ۱۵ سال پس از تاسیس، همچنان از نهادهای موفق شهر تورنتو است. در سال ۲۰۱۰، مدت کوتاهی پس از بازگشتم به کانادا، به عضویت کنگره ایرانیان کانادا در آمدم. در دو سال گذشته بسیار کوشیده‌ام که برخی‌ اصول دمکراتیک چون شفافیت، پاسخگویی و قانونمداری را در این سازمان نهادینه کنم. من از اعضای فعال کمیته سیاست گذاری کنگره بودم و در آنجا چند ده ساعت بر روی تغییرات اساسنامه این نهاد کار مستمر انجام دادیم. در چند ماه اخیر از اعضای اصلی‌ کمپین مستقل “من هم یک ایرانی‌ کانادایی هستم“ بودم و در آنجا به کمک چندین داوطلب موفق شدیم چند صد نفر را به عضویت کنگره درآوریم. در این مقطع، امیدوارم بتوانم به عنوان یک عضو هیأت مدیره و با کمک دیگر اعضای کنگره نهادی مقتدر، مستقل و دمکراتیک بسازیم.

Fatemeh Mansouri-Far - فاطمه منصوری فر

Dr. Fatemeh Mansouri-Far immigrated to Canada in 1998 and obtained her Optition License from Canada in 2002. After completing her studies and obtaining her Doctorate degree in Optometry, she was granted the permission to practice as  an Optometrist Doctor in 2005. In Iran, in addition to her BSc Degree in Optometry from the Medical Science University of Iran, she  had a Master Degree in Political Science from the University of Tehran. Dr. Mansouri-Far has two daughters, both of whom are  Specialist physicians. She is very passionate about Iranian community in Canada and enjoys providing assistance to the community. Dr. Mansouri-Far is currently the manager of Arya Clinic in Toronto. 

Avideh Motmaen-Far - آویده مطمئن فر

Avideh Motmaen-Far was born in Iran but moved to Belgium in her childhood where she spent most of her life and lives currently in Toronto since February 2004. She holds a D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree from The Belgian School of Osteopathy. She also studied at the Ecole de Journalisme, ULB, Belgium and graduated Valedictorian from the Art Institute of Toronto in 2005. She mostly practices as an Osteopath in her private clinic in Toronto but also volunteers since 2010 as a writer/reporter for Persian speaking media such as Radio Koocheh and Khodnevis.com. She also writes for Gatestone Institute, and holds a blog at LeMonde.fr. Avideh has also always been involved in volunteering as a medical practitioner in Africa and Belgium to help less fortunate populations and immigrants. She also contributes actively to various humanitarian causes across the world. She is fluent in French, English and Persian and has a good notion of a few other languages. Although she grew up out of her country of birth, Iran, she has always been interested and involved in activities concerning Iran and Iranian community by serving and contributing through volunteer artistic, journalistic and medical activities. She is an active supporter of the ICC and a member of its cultural committee. She served as an appointed ICC Board Member in 2014. 

Ali Nikjoo -   علی نیک جو

Ali Nikjoo was born in 1955 in Semnan. All his elementary and high school education was carried out in Tehran and he received his bachelor of Engineering in Natural Resources form the University of Tehran. Ali Nikjoo  continued his education and later graduated from the Isfahan University Medical School in the field of Psychology. Ali Nikjoo migrated to Canada in 2005 and began to teach at the Canadian College of Holistic Health. Through participation  in Iranian community activities, Ali Nikjoo has tried his best to assist the development of Iranian community by publishing several articles in different Iranian media and providing talks in local TV programs. He Believes that no change within the Iranian community both inside and outside of Iran is possible without wide spread social and civil engagement and activities. Ali Nikjoo believes that the ICC can reflect the needs of the Iranian community and ultimately lead them in their struggle for freedom and development. He wishes to offer all his knowledge and resources to the community through the ICC.

علی نیک جو هستم. در سال 1334 شمسی( 1955 میلادی) در شهر سمنان بدنیا آمدم.تحصیلات ابتدائی و متوسطه را در تهران طی نموده و موفق به اخذ لیسانس مهندسی منابع طبیعی از دانشگاه تهران  دکترای پزشکی از دانشگاه اصفهان  و تخصص روانپزشکی از دانشگاه علوم پزشکی اصفهان گردیدم . در سال 2005 به کانادا مهاجرت نمودم و در کالج کانادائی طب کل نگر (Canadian College of Holistic Health) بعنوان مدرس مشغول بکار شدم. همزمان در فعالیتهای اجتماعی جامعه ی ایرانی شرکت نموده و از طریق برنامه های تلویزیونی و نوشتن مقالات در مطبوعات ایرانی سعی در فرهنگ سازی در جامعه ی ایرانی نمودم. باور دارم  هر گونه تغییر و تحولی در جامعه ی ایرانی خارج یا داخل کشور بدون فراهم نمودن زمینه های فرهنگی و تشکلهای اجتماعی فراگیر امکان پذیر نمی باشد. باور دارم کنگره ی ایرانیان کانادا ( ICC ) نهادی است که میتواند منعکس کننده ی خواسته های جامعه ی ایرانی بوده وپیشاهنگ راهی باشد که منجر به ایرانی آزاد و آباد و مترقی گردد. در این مسیر آماده ام توانائیها و دانش خود را از طریق ICC در اختیار جامعه ی ایرانی قرار دهم  

Mitra Saffari - میترا صفاری
 

My name is Mitra Saffari. I am an Industrial Engineer and a certified Program Management Professional (PMP), with more than 20 years of experience in program management. I graduated from Isfahan Technical university “Sanaati Isfahan”. I immigrated to Canada 13 years ago and have been working in Public Transit projects in a Consultant Engineering firm in Toronto.   Outside my profession al life, I am interested in peace, justice and human rights related issues. My passion as a social and political activist is making a just society free from discrimination and violence. Over the years, I have been involved in various anti-oppression and human rights activities. I have organized and coordinated several talks for Iranian community in Toronto including; International Women’s Day (March 8 ) , International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (May 17), International Day of Peace (September 21), International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women (November 25) and Human Rights Day (December 10).   I appreciate all the efforts that have gone to date into the creation of the Iranian Canadian Congress. I would like to help with the development of the Iranian Canadian Congress into a space where members of the Iranian community in Canada can exercise democracy through constructive dialogue and criticism, while practicing tolerance toward disagreements and showing respect for diverse identities and opinions. In addition, I would like to ensure that the voices and needs of marginalized and unprivileged members of the Iranian community are heard and acted upon through the Iranian Canadian Congress. 

Sevil Sahel-Gozin - سویل ساحل گزین

Ms. Sevil Sahel-Gozin is an entrepreneur and a successful business woman in the field of imports and exports.She immigrated to Canada in 1988 and after attending several schools and obtaining certificates she practiced business in the area of the early childhood education, food industry, and retail sector. She currently is the owner and manager of  a home-ware trading company. Ms. Sahel-Gozin is an enthusiastic activist in the Iranian Community. She has been a member of the Iranian Canadian Congress for several years and has contributed valuable support to the ICC's Cultural Committee. 

Shahram Tab-Mohammadi - شهرام تابع محمدی*

من در سال 1985 به‌عنوان پناهنده سیاسی به کانادا آمدم. در ایران در دانشگاه پلی‌تکنیک دانشجوی مهندسی شیمی بودم که در جریان انقلاب فرهنگی از دانشگاه اخراج شدم. در دانشگاه آتاوا در همین رشته به تحصیل ادامه دادم. مدرک دکترایم را در موضوع تکنولوژی ممبرین (Membrane) در پالایش گاز دریافت کردم و فوق دکترایم را زیر نظر شورای علوم طبیعی و مهندسی کانادا در موضوع بازیافت فرآورده‌های پتروشیمی به پایان رساندم. بعد از آن در شورای ملی پژوهش‌های علمی کانادا و در دانشگاه آتاوا کار کردم. در حال حاضر به‌عنوان پژوهشگر علمی در وزارت محیط زیست و به‌عنوان استاد مهندسی شیمی در دانشگاه تورونتو مشغول کار هستم. در ایران در بسیاری فعالیت‌های فرهنگی دانشجویی شرکت داشتم از جمله راه انداختن انجمن علمی-فرهنگی و انجمن فیلم در دانشگاه پلی‌تکنیک. در کانادا هم‌زمان با ادامه تحصیل، انجمن دانشجویان ایرانی آتاوا را تاسیس کردم که از اولین انجمن‌های دانشجویی پس از انقلاب در کانادا بود. در کارنامه این انجمن بسیاری از اولین فعالیت‌های فرهنگی جامعه ایرانی در آن دوران را می‌توان پیدا کرد مثل دعوت از محمود دولت‌آبادی، داریوش آشوری، شهرنوش پارسی‌پور، وبسیاری دیگر. همین‌طور اولین نمایش فیلم ایرانی در کانادا (باشو غریبه کوچک) بخشی از این فعالیت‌ها را شامل می‌شود. بعدتر، در تاسیس انجمن ایرانیان آتاوا همکاری کردم که تا چند سال پیش مشغول فعالیت بود. در همان سال‌ها ماهنامه‌ای بنام سیمرغ به چاپ می‌رساندم که یک سالی دوام آورد. از اولین شماره‌های شهروند همکاری با این هفته‌نامه را شروع کردم که به‌تدریج به همکاری با بسیاری رسانه‌های دیگر گسترش یافت مثل BBC، VOA، و بسیاری رادیوها، تلویزیون‌ها، و نشریات دیگر در کانادا، آمریکا، اروپا، و ایران را در بر می‌گیرد. همین‌طور در رسانه‌های غیر ایرانی نیز حضور پیدا کرده‌ام. برای نمونه، یک فیلم مستند و دو برنامه رادیویی به وسیله CBC در مورد فرار من از ایران و آمدنم به کانادا تهیه شده است که یکی از آن‌ها Promised Land – Escape from Iran به عنوان یکی از ده برنامه موفق این رسانه انتخاب شد. این برنامه بر روی پادکست در دسترس است. همین‌طور مطلب تحلیلی سیاسی که در رابطه با ایران در Globe & Mail چاپ کردم یکی از پرخواننده‌ترین نوشته‌ها در این زمینه شد. در سال 1990 و به‌دنبال فروپاشی شوروی و بلوک شرق، با یک هیئت دیپلماتیک کانادایی به عنوان Young Scientist به چکسلواکی رفتم و این فرصت برایم پیش آمد تا با آلکساندر دوبچک و واسلاو هاول ملاقات کنم. در سال 2000 جشنواره سینمای دیاسپورا را بنیاد گذاشتم که امسال – همسن پسرم شاهین – پانزده ساله می‌شود. این جشنواره مقام شایسته‌ای در دایره هنر کانادا به‌خود اختصاص داده و بسیاری از سرشناس‌ترین هنرمندان کانادایی با آن همکاری می‌کنند. همین‌طور، در سه دوره متوالی با جشنواره تیرگان همکاری داشته‌ام که امسال نیز ادامه پیدا کرده است. از دو سال پیش با ارسلان کهنمویی‌پور و چند همکار دیگر تلاش برای بهبود کنگره ایرانیان کانادا را شروع کردم. بازنویسی اساسنامه که متاسفانه هنوز به نتیجه نرسیده یکی از مهم‌ترین قدم‌هایی بود که در این راه برداشته شد. این تلاش‌ها با پیوستن یک نسل جوان، خوش‌فکر، و پرکار شکوفا شد و به تشکیل کارزار (کمپین) "من هم یک ایرانی-کانادایی هستم" انجامید. فکر اولیه این کارزار از بیژن احمدی بود که در کنار سوده قاسمی و با همکاری بیش از چهل داوطلب از جمله من موفق شد بیش از ششصد نفر را به عضویت کنگره درآورد. این برای من افتخاری است که در کنار افرادی مثل ارسلان کهنمویی‌پور، بیژن احمدی، و سوده قاسمی وارد رقابت انتخاباتی برای هیئت مدیره کنگره ایرانیان کانادا بشوم. در جامعه‌ای که سال‌ها است از نبود همکاری و همیاری در بین ایرانیان شکایت می‌کند من و همراهانم نشان داده‌ایم که می‌توانیم در یک محیط دموکراتیک دست به دست هم بدهیم و رویایی را به واقعیت برسانیم که بسیاری انجام آن را غیر ممکن می‌دانستند. من تردید ندارم که اگر با یاری شما بتوانیم در هیئت مدیره حضور پیدا کنیم با همکاری دیگر مدیران قادر خواهیم شد جلمعه ایرانی را به جایگاهی برتر برسانیم و بر جلوه‌های چند فرهنگی کانادا رنگی پررنگ از سرزمین‌مان اضافه کنیم.

,اعضای گرامی بدینوسیله به آگاهی می رساند که مجمع عمومی سالیانه کنگره ایرانیان کانادا ساعت ۲ بعد از ظهر روز یکشنبه ۲۴ ماه مه ۲۰۱۵ در سالن اجتماعات شهرداری نورت یورک برای رسیدگی به موارد ذیل برگزار خواهد شد
 ۱ - گزارش و خوش آمد گویی رییس هیأت مدیره
 ۲- تأیید و تصویب صورتجلسه مجمع عمومی سالیانه ۱۱ ماه مه ۲۰۱۴
 ۳-  تأیید و تصویب گزارش مالی سال ۲۰۱۴
 ۴-  برگزاری انتخابات برای جای گزینی چهارعضو هیأت مدیره که دوره ماموریت آنان پایان می یابد

 شرایط نامزدی برای عضویت در هیات مدیره به استناد اساسنامه کنگره ایرانیان کانادا بشرح زیر است
 الف) عضویت در کنگره ایرانیان کانادا برای حداقل یکسال کامل که زمان آن بلافاصله پیش ازتاریخ انتخابات پیش رو محاسبه میگردد
 ب)  حداقل ۲۱ سال و یا بیشتر سن داشته باشند
 ج) شهروند کانادا باشند

 ه) بایستی دارای سوء پیشینه نباشند

همگی اعضای علاقمند به نامزد شدن در انتخابات که دارای شرایط فوق هستند میبایست تا تاریخ ۷ ماه مه ۲۰۱۵  خلاصه ای از سوابق و دلایل علاقمندی خود برای عضویت در هیأت مدیره را در حد اکثر ۳۰۰ لغت همراه با یک عکس جدید در اندازه پاسپورت به ایمیل کنگره ارسال نمایند. دریافت گواهی عدم سوء پیشینه از اداره پلیس محل اقامت و ارایه آن به هیات مدیره تا تاریخ ۲۲ ماه مه ۲۰۱۵ از سوی همگی نامزدان برای انتخابات الزامی است. تنها اعضای کنگره می توانند در مجمع عمومی شرکت کرده و رأی دهند. از اینرو آنهایی که تا تاریخ ۱۷ ماه مه ۲۰۱۵ به عضویت کنگره در آمده و یا عضویت خود را تمدید کنند می توانند در انتخابات شرکت نمایند. اعضایی که بعد از این تاریخ به کنگره بپیوندند می توانند در مجمع عمومی سالیانه شرکت کرده ولی حق رأی دادن نخواهند داشت. هیأت مدیره کنگره ایرانیان کانادا info@iccongress.ca

سلمان جان ارتباط گفته شما با مطلب فوق را متوجه نمی شوم ولی در هر صورت اطلاعات شما متأسفانه نادرست است. از دوستانی که این اطلاعات را به شما می دهند لطفا بپرسید که به عنوان مثال جلسه آخر کنگره و یا جلسه ماقبل آن به چه علت برگزار نشدند. اگر جوابی گرفتید لطفا آن را به اطلاع ما هم برسانید. از آنها لطفا همچنین در مورد علت پاسخ ندادن به ایمیل های متعدد من،‌ آقای قاضی و آقای فرید به هیأت مدیره در مورد مسائل گوناگون از جمله برگزاری به موقع مجمع عمومی‌ آینده کنگره سوأل بفرمایید. امیدوارم که گفته امروز من را به یاد بسپارید و اگر مجمع عمومی آینده کنگره تا موعد مقرر طبق اساسنامه یعنی ۱۱ ماه مه ۲۰۱۵ برگزار نشد ما را مقصر آن نشمارید.

Many of you have raised concerns about the safety and well being of Mr. Mostafa Azizi, a member of the Iranian Canadian community, and have expressed that in your opinion, the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) should do all within its power to ensure that this member of our community is not deprived of basic human rights. This is to confirm that these concerns have been communicated to the board of directors of the ICC. We hope that the majority on the board of directors of the ICC makes the right decision to assist this member of our community in these difficult times for him and his family.

Happy Women's Day International Women's Day (March 8th) is an occasion to celebrate women's achievements across the globe, and to impress upon society the imperative for gender equity and social justice in our time. The Iranian Canadian Congress joins communities of conscientious women and men from a variety of cultural backgrounds in affirming the universal rights, social and political freedoms, and basic dignity of women and girls in Canada and Iran. The plight of Iranian women since the inception of the Islamic Republic in Iran is both well-documented and, alas, persisting. The arbitrary and discriminatory legal regime based on aspects of Shari'a provisions have not only specifically targeted women's basic civil and political rights but also imperilled social progress in relations between men and women. Despite considerable obstacles, however, Iranian women's contributions to a more equitable society as well as a democratic state continue apace. The ICC would like to use the momentous occasion of International Women's Day to celebrate and stand in solidarity with Iranian women across the globe, and especially inside Iran, in their continuing struggles against patriarchal and arbitrary systems of privilege and rule. Ladies and Gents, I apologize for the delayed response. Dr.Siavash Assadpour did discuss the last AGM's video with me while ago; his guess was that Mrs. Ahmadi of Radio Sedaye Iran shall have a copy in her possession. Dr. Asssadpour also indicated that the best person to follow up on this matter is Dr. Davod Kafai (given that he currently holds a talk show at the noted Radio station). I did discussed the matter with Dr. Kafai shortly after I was informed by Dr. Assadpour, regrettably due to numerous issues I discussed with Dr. Kafai throughout our in person meeting this matter seems have fallen off his list. I followed up with Dr. Kafai this past weekend and he is going to make an inquiry about it this Tuesday (tomorrow). Just to be clear, I am not in possession of the video nor any other documents relevant to the last AGM. I trust this is satisfactory. Eradatmand, Reza

همانطور که اطلاع دارید، پس از مجمع عمومی گذشته، هیئت مدیره کنونی چندین مرتبه از هیئت مدیره گذشته تقاضا کرد که تمامی اسناد، مدارک و متعلقات کنگره به گروه جدید انتقال داده شود. لازم به ذکر است که به عنوان دبیر کنونی کنگره تا کنون هیچ صورت جلسه ای از هیئت مدیره قبلی دریافت نکرده ام، چه صورت جلسه جلسات هیئت مدیره و چه صورت جلسه مجمع عمومی. فیلمی هم که شما به آن اشاره می کنید به هیئت مدیره کنونی انتقال داده نشده است. شما دبیر هیئت مدیره گذشته و مسئول تهیه این صورت جلسات بوده اید. لطفا اطلاع دهید که آیا این صورت جلسات تهیه شده بودند یا خیر. اگر جواب منفی است علت کوتاهی چه بوده است؟ اگر جواب مثبت است علت عدم انتقال این اسناد به هیئت مدیره جدید چه بوده؟

۱) کارگروه بازنگری اساسنامه در هیئت مدیره شما پس از قریب به یک سال فعالیت به مدیریت دیوید موسوی نسخه ای پیشنهادی از اساسنامه بازنگری شده تهیه کرد که این نسخه توسط هیئت مدیره شما ابتدا در تاریخ ۳۰ مارس ۲۰۱۴ و سپس در تاریخ ۲۸ آوریل ۲۰۱۴ به همراه دستور جلسه مجمع عمومی به اعضا فرستاده شد. در تمامی بیانیه هایی که در رابطه با مجمع عمومی منتشر کردید نیز بازنگری اساسنامه مورد شماره ۳ دستور جلسه بود و از اعضا تقاضا کردید که این متن را برای به رأی گذاشتن در مجمع عمومی مطالعه کنند. در مجمع عمومی که در تاریخ ۱۱ مه ۲۰۱۴ برگزار شد اما هیئت مدیره شما از دستور جلسه تخطی کرد و با استناد به نبودن زمان کافی برای رسیدگی به بازنگری اساسنامه در مجمع عمومی سالیانه، این پیشنهاد را مطرح کرد که به این موضوع در مجمعی فوق العاده در آینده ای نزدیک رسیدگی شود. در آن هنگام برای آرام کردن حضار بازه زمانی ۶ ماهه ای برای انجام این امر توسط هیئت مدیره شما مطرح شد که باعث آرام شدن فضا و کمتر شدن انتقادات از تخطی هیئت مدیره از دستور جلسه شد. هم اکنون اما شما اشاره به این امر دارید که زمان ارئه شده توسط هیئت مدیره برای این منظور به رأی گذاشته نشد و از این رو بر کنگره الزام آور نمی باشد. متأسفانه این موضع دچار ضعف منطقی و اخلاقی است و قانع کننده به نظر نمی آید. علت آن این است که این زمان بندی تنها برای کسب رضایت اعضا در خصوص تخطی هیئت مدیره از دستور آن جلسه مطرح شد و یکی از دلایل اصلی بود که باعث رضایت اعضا به تعویق بازنگری اساسنامه شد. از این رو رضایت اعضا به عقب انداختن بازنگری اساسنامه مهر تأییدی بود بر موعد ۶ ماهه مطرح شده توسط هیئت مدیره. استدلالی که مطرح می کنید مانند این می باشد که در شرایطی که من به شما مبلغی را بدهکار هستم، در زمان مقرر برای پرداخت با ارائه دلایلی در خصوص ناتوانی مالی ام، با وجود نا رضایتی شما از تأخیر، قول به پرداخت در یک موعد ۶ ماهه را بدهم ولی پس از گذشت ۶ ماه به شما عرض کنم که با وجود اینکه به شما قول پرداخت در یک بازه ۶ ماهه را داده بودم، شما هیچگاه آن موعد ۶ ماهه را به صورت رسمی نپذیرفتید و از این رو حاضر به پرداخت نمی باشم. در چنین شرایطی عقل سلیم حکم می کند که قول من برای پرداخت در ۶ ماه آینده یکی از دلایل اصلی رضایت شما به عدم دریافت مبلغ در موعد نخست باشد و از این رو پرداخت در یک موعد ۶ ماهه به صورت تلویحی توسط شما پذیرفته شده است و برای الزم آور بودن احتیاجی به پذیرش رسمی شما ندارد.

۲) آخرین مجمع عمومی سالیانه کنگره، که موضوع بحث کنونی می باشد، در تاریخ ۱۱ مه ۲۰۱۴، و به عبارتی دقیقا ۲۸۸ روز پیش برگزار شد. در طی این ۲۸۸ روز مطالب متعددی از طرف اعضا، منتقدین و همچنین هیئت مدیره کنگره در نشریات ایرانی کانادایی به چاپ رسیدند که اشاره به تصمیمی در آن جلسه داشتند که هیئت مدیره را موظف به برگزاری یک مجمع عمومی فوق العاده به منظور بازنگری اساسنامه در یک فرصت ۶ ماهه می کرد. بیانیه های ۷ جولای و ۱۱ دسامبر کنگره نیز به این تصمیم اشاره مستقیم داشته اند. هم اکنون برای اولین بار از شما می شنویم که همچنین تصمیمی هیچگاه در مجمع عمومی گذشته گرفته نشده بود. سوأل من از شما این است که اگر آنچه مطرح می کنید حقیقت است، با توجه به اینکه این موضوع تا کنون به دفعات در نشریات و بیانه های کنگره مورد اشاره و استناد قرار گرفته است، چرا در بیان این حقیقت بالغ بر ۲۸۰ روز تأخیر داشته اید؟ با توجه به شناختی که از شما و حسن نیتتان برای کنگره دارم مطمئن هستم که این تأخیر از سوی شما به عمد نبوده است. آیا ممکن است که علت این تأخیر این باشد که شما خود نیز بر این باور بوده اید که این تصمیم به درستی در آن مجمع گرفته شده بوده و اخیرا کاشف به عمل آمده اید که این موضوع دور از حقیقت است؟ اگر این فرض صحیح است لطفا توضیح دهید که چگونه بعد از گذشت این مدت مدید متوجه این حقیقت شدید. اگر فرض صحیح نیست لطفا علت تأخیر در اطلاع رسانی تان را توضیح دهید.

 متاسفانه بسیاری از مطالب مندرج در مقاله فوق دروغ محض و عاری از حقیقت است و این باعث تاسف بسیار است گروهی خود خوانده در حالی که تعدادشان انگشت شمار است خود را کامیونیتی ایرانی و یاحد اقل اعضای کنگره میدانند در حالی که کنگره ایرانیان صدها عضو دارد که شما نه تنها نمایندگان انها نیستید بلکه باتخریب سازمان یافته و بعضا سیاسی و گروهی شما نیز مخالفند. مردم حد اقل انتظار دارند شما که مدرک دانشگاهی را یدک میکشید دروغ نگوئید وبه قوانین اجتمائی از جمله اساسنامه کنگره احترام بگذارید. شما گروه کوچک تمامیت خواه اگر حتی از تعداد قابل توجهی برخوردار بودیدکه میتوانستید اکثریت هیئت مدیره را در اختیار بگیرید به مراد خود رسیده و تخریب و اهانت به جامعه ایرانی را متوقف میکردید. و اما دروغهای سازمان یافته و مغرضانه شما، در مجمع عمومی سال گذشته هرگز مجمع عمومی فوری در ششماه اینده به رای گذاشته نشد و فقط پیشنهاد شد که هیئت مدیره جدید تصمیم بگیرد. نوار سال قبل موجود است. و اما سایر مسائل که به شما قول داده بودند بدلیل اینکه در اقلیت هستند نمیتوانند دستورات شما را انجام دهند چون قانونا اکثریت هیئت مدیره باید تصمیم بگیرد و انهم اگر در اساسنامه باشد که نیست که البته شما نه قانون را قبول دارید و نه اساسنامه را بلکه به تکلیفتان عمل میکنید امیدوارم در سال جدید اگر جرئت کنید و در انتخابات شرکت کنید و البته رای بیاورید، ما شاهد موفقیتهای چشمگیر شما باشیم چون بعضی از پیشکسوتان شما هر سال شرکت میکنند و رای نمیاورند و به شما میپیوندند تا حد اقل در یک تشکیلات غیر انتخابی باعث سرگرمی شود

نامه مهدی شمس به هییت مدیره کنگره ایرانیان

خدمت هییت مدیره کنگره ایرانیان،
بخصوص جناب فرهنگ فرید سرپرست کمیته ارتباطات و روابط عمومی

همانطور که مستحضر هستید اینجانب هر هفته مقاله ای تهیه کرده و بطور منظم در نشریات ایران استار و شهرما به چاپ میرسد. متاسفانه تا به امروز به دلایل مشکلات متعدد از جمله عدم اطلاع رسانی کافی از طرف هییت مدیره، و عدم امکان ارتباط با هییت مدیره نتوانسته ام اطلاعات و وقایع را آنطور که باید منعکس و در اختیار خوانندگان بگذارم. از همین رو مقالات تا به امروز بیشتر جنبه انتقادی داشته اند. خواهشمندم همکاری نموده تا این نقیصه برطرف گردد. در رابطه با مقاله ای در حال تهیه آن میباشم به اطلاعات ذیل نیازمند میباشم، خواهشمندم آنها را در اختیار اینجانب بگذارید.
1- یکماه از برگزاری آخرین گردهمائی کنگره که در تاریخ 14 دسامبر برقرار گردید میگذرد. در آن جلسه دو مورد بحث برانگیر بوقوع پیوست که انتظار آن میرفت که هییت مدیره در رابطه با آنها عکس العمل نشان داده و یا توضیحاتی را در اختیار اعضاء بگذارد که متاسفانه تا این تاریخ صورت نگرفته است.
     - رفتار ناشایست فرامرز شیرواند
     - اخراج یکی از اعضاء، و تذکر های متعدد به شرکت کنندگان به دستور جناب مهدی امین که بصورت داوطلبانه آنروز به   همکاری مشغول بوده است. این سئوال در اذهان بوجود آمده است که چرا یکی از اعضاء هییت مدیره این مسئولیت  را نپذیرفته و آیا صحیح است که این وظیفه حساس به عهده یک داوطلب سپرده شود؟
آیا هییت مدیره قصد دارد دررابطه با این دو موضوع اظهار نظر نماید؟

2- بسیاری از افراد کامیونتی مایلند بدانند تعداد اعضاء تا به امروز به چند نفر رسیده است.

3- چرا تا به حال کمیته ارتباطات و روابط عمومی که یکی از مهمترین کمیته ها و یکی از وظایفش اطلاع رسانی و ایجاد ارتباط با اعضاء میباشد راه اندازی نشده است؟

4- دلیل به تعویق افتادن و تغییر سخنرانان دومین جلسه سخنرانی که توسط کمیته فرهنگی تدارک دیده شده است چه بوده؟ چگونه آکهی آن بدون تائید هییت مدیره در شهروند به چاپ رسیده است؟

5- چرا خانم سیما دینی که سرپرستی کمیته حقوق بشر را عهده دار است گزارشی از آنچه در جلسه ملاقات با نمایندگان وزارت امور خارجه کانادا گذشت را به اعضاء کمیته نداده است. این کمیته چه فعالیت هائی را در برنامه های آینده خود در نظر دارد؟

6- در ضمن جهت رفع یکی از اشکالات کنگره که عدم بایگانی اطلاعات میباشد، شروع به جمع آوری هرگونه اطلاعات در رابطه  با کنگره میباشیم، که آنرا تحت عنوان  ICCpedia  در سایت همبستگی در دسترس همگان قرار داده ایم. این اواخر با به دست آوردن ضبط ویدئوی مجمع عمومی سالیانه 2012 آنرا ادیت کرده و در پنج بخش در اختیار همگان قرار داده ایم. تقاضا داریم که فیلم های مجمع عمومی های سالهای 2013 و 2014 را در اختیارمان گذاشته که آنها را هم به همان صورت در اختیار همگان قرار دهیم.
در ضمن تقاضا دارم با خواندن آخرین مقاله من که این هفته تحت عنوان " ما هم مقصریم" به چاپ رسیده، تا اندازه ای با آنچه اینجانب از کنگره ایرانیان در سرداشته و آنچه که میتوانیم با مشارکت جمعی انجام دهیم آشنا گردید.

As it was communicated previously, Mr. Bahman Roudgarnia submitted his resignation to the board of Directors on December 17, 2014.  To fill this vacancy and after deliberation with the board,  the president of ICC appointed Mr. Mehdi Amin to the board of directors effective January 13th, 2014.  Mr. Amin will serve as a director until the next election to be held at a general meeting of the members of the Iranian Canadian Congress.

Hi All,
As you are aware, Mr. Roudgarnia submitted his resignation to the board on December 17, 2014. In accordance with the bylaws, the members of the board of directors must submit names of recommended candidates to the board within 21 days of a vacancy for a final selection to be made by the President within 30 days of the vacancy. This being said, please be advised that Mr. Farhang Farid , Mr. Reza Ghazi and I have all recommended Mr. Arsham Parsi to the board for the purposes of filling the vacancy.

Mr. Parsi is a community activist and the founder of the Iranian Railroad for Queer Refugees, a non-profit organization with a mandate to assist members of the Iranian LGBT community with seeking asylum in safe countries. Mr. Parsi has appeared before the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on numerous occasions and his work is known to many on an international scale. Mr. Parsi was a candidate in the previous ICC election and received the second highest number of votes among the unsuccessful candidates according to official results, and the highest number of votes according to other accounts.

It is our true hope that the final decision of the President is one that promotes inclusivity and tolerance towards a minority group which is grossly underrepresented within our community.

In accordance with the bylaws, the final decision of the President will have to be made by no later than January 16, 2015.

December 12 - The ICC Quarterly Forum

1st Session

“Challenges and Solutions: Strengthening the ICC”

The Iranian Canadian Congress (“ICC”) plans to hold intimate quarterly sessions in which the ICC membership and other interested community members can come together to discuss challenges faced by the Iranian-Canadian community and to search for effective solutions. Our first session will examine the ICC itself.

This Session’s Theme: Examining Challenges Facing the ICC and How to Strengthen the Institution.

Since its inception, the ICC has faced numerous challenges in growing its membership, retaining strong and unified leadership, and effectively advocating for the Iranian-Canadian community within Canada’s political and cultural landscape.  This session intends to explore reasons for those challenges and to seek effective solutions which can be implemented.

Date: December 14, 2014, from 14:00 to 18:00

Venue: Council Chamber, North York Civic Center, Mel Lastman Square

Procedures:
- Those interested in delivering remarks on this session’s theme should submit a draft of those remarks (maximum 1000 words) to the ICC at the following email address (info@iccongress.ca) by December 7, 2014.

 - The focus of the session is on finding solutions to the challenges we face. Therefore, we ask that any submission contain not just a summary of challenges, but suggested solutions to those challenges.

- Each speaker will be allotted between 5 and 10 minutes (depending on the number of speakers).  An equal amount of time will be dedicated to a question-and-answer session for each speaker.

- Speaking priority is offered to the ICC members.

گردهمائی پائیزه هیات مدیره کنگره ایرانیان کانادا

چالشها و راه کارها  : توانمند کردن کنگره ایرانیان

 هیات مدیره کنگره ایرانیان کانادا در نظر دارد تا نشستی صمیمانه  با اعضا و دوستداران کنگره را هر سه ماه یکبار (فصلی) برای رسیدگی به مسایل و مشکلات کنگره ویافتن راه کارهای مناسب ترتیب دهد. نخستین برنامه به بررسی مشکلات  کنگره میپردازد. کنگره از ابتدای تاسیس آن با کاستی هایی از قبیل تعداد اعضا، در اختیار گرفتن مدیریت منسجم و متحد، و دفاع و پشتیبانی از کامیونیتی ایرانی در گستره فرهنگی ، اجتماعی ،و سیاسی کانادا روبرو بوده است. به همین منظور کنگره در نظر دارد تا به بررسی این گونه کاستی ها  پرداخته و با یاری از خرد جمعی به یافتن راه کار مناسب برای حل این مشکلات بپردازد.

روش اجرائی برنامه:

- کسانی که مایلند در این برنامه به عنوان  سخنران به مشکلات و مسائل کنونی کنگره بپردازند میتوانند یک نسخه از متن سخنرانی خود (حد اکثر ۱۰۰۰ لغت بزبان انگلیسی یا فارسی) را به دبیرخانه کنگره به آدرس(info@iccongress.ca) تا تاریخ ۷ دسامبر ۲۰۱۴ ارسال نمایند.

- مقالات و سخنرانی ها ضمن طرح مسائل و مشکلات کنونی کنگره میبایستی به ارائه راه کار و نحوه برون رفت از آن نیز پرداخته، درغیر اینصورت در بخش سخنرانی گنجانده نخواهد شد

- مدت زمان سخنرانی از ۵ تا ۱۰ دقیقه بوده (با توجه به تعداد سخنرانان) و زمانی برابر آن  نیز برای پرسش از سخنران اختصاص یافته

- حق تقدم در نوبت سخنرانان با اعضا کنگره است

In pursuing the intention of the members to revise the bylaws, as expressed in the last Annual General Meeting which took place on May 11, 2014, the board of directors formed the ICC bylaw revisions working group and invited all interested members to participate in reviewing proposed changes to the ICC bylaws.

At the first meeting of the working group, which was held on July 26, 2014 with 18 members and 2 representatives from the board in attendance, a timeline was developed for the purposes of preparing a revised draft of the bylaws to be presented to the members at the SGM. In an effort to identify the key areas of concern to be addressed in the draft bylaws, the working group decided to prepare and circulate a questionnaire among the members to seek their feedback on revisions that had been proposed to the working group as well as to the bylaws revision committees of the previous boards. To this end, the working group held 9 meetings and prepared and submitted to the board a bylaw revisions questionnaire containing 27 multiple choice questions for approval prior to circulation among members.

Re: Iranian Refugees Status

Dear Minister Alexander,

On behalf of the Iranian Canadian Congress, I write to request a moratorium on all refugee deportations to Iran.

We applaud the recent steps taken by the Government of Canada to pursue a resolution at the United Nations General Assembly which condemns the Iranian government's troubling human rights record.  The UNGA resolutions, pursued by Conservative and Liberal governments in the past decade,  have an important impact in revealing the history of murder, imprisonment, torture in Iran, as well as the Iranian government's entrenched policies of de jure and de facto discrimination against large segments of the Iranian population.

In light of this history, well-known to your Government and to the international community, it is incumbent upon Canada to protect those who seek asylum in Canada.  Returning asylum seekers to Iran endangers their lives and violates the principle of non refoulement in international law.   

We would be happy to work with you to further explore this issue and implement the requested moratorium.

On Reyhaneh Jabbari's 27th birthday, ICC condemns her execution as well as recent acid attacks against Iranian women

November 5th marks the day that Reyhaneh Jabbari would have turned 27 if it were not for her 7 years of imprisonment coming to an abrupt end by her execution. According to the International Federation for Human Rights:

“Jabbari was arrested in 2007 for the murder of Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, a former officer for Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence. Jabbari maintained that she had stabbed Sarbandi in self-defence, after he had allegedly attacked and tried to rape her. After an investigation and a trial that was marred with irregularities, Jabbari was sentenced to death in 2009. Her sentence was strongly criticized both in Iran and internationally by several human rights groups, government representatives from around the world, and UN officials.

Despite recent calls from civil society and the international community, including the President of the European Parliament, urging the Iranian authorities to reverse Jabbari’s death sentence and allow her a fair retrial, she was hanged in Rajaishahr prison on October 25th.”

Her execution is one of almost 1'000 death penalty cases in the past year (852 between July 2013 and June 2014 based on the latest report released by Ahmed Shaheed, UN Human Rights Rapporteur for Iran). This figure during the presidency of Hassan Rouhani is even higher than the similar period during Ahmadinejad presidency in Iran.

In the recent weeks Iranian women have been facing numerous acid attacks. In a country that it takes 6 hours to find and arrest some individuals for dancing, the person/s guilty of such heinous acts is yet to be identified and arrested. In connection with these shameful attacks some activist such as Mahdiyeh Golroo has been arrested for simply condemning this barbaric act while looking for some answers.

The ICC wishes to express its deepest condolences to the Jabbari family on her birthday while condemning her execution and unfair trial. The ICC also condemns the brutal attacks on the Iranian women in the streets of different cities in Iran.

موضوع : محکومیت حمله  تروریستی به پارلمان کانادا

در تاریخ ۲۲  اکتبر ۲۰۱۴ سرباز وظیفه نی تون چیریلو از واحد نیروهای نظامی همیلتون در هنگام انجام وظیفه در اتاوا قربانی یک حمله تروریستی شد.  همچنین دو روز پیشتر در یک حمله تروریستی دیگر استوار پاتریس وینسنت در شهر سن ژور ریشلو در استان کبک به قتل رسید.

اینجانب  از سوی کنگره ایرانیان کانادا و در این شرایط دشوار مراتب همدردی خود را به خانواده ، خویشاوندان، و دوستان قربانیان و همچنین اعضا محترم دولت و پارلمان کانادا ابراز نموده و تسلیت عرض مینمایم .  ما این حملات تروریستی شوک آور و شنیع  بر علیه  کسانی که زندگی خویش را برای دفاع از کشور وقف کرده اند  بشدت محکوم کرده  و در این شرایط سخت در کنار سایر هموطنان کانادایی خود ایستاده ایم  .

Iranian Canadian Congress condemns the terrorist attack at Parliament

On Wednesday October 22, 2014, Cpl. Nathan Cirillo of the Canadian Armed Forces of Hamilton became victim of a terrorist attack in Ottawa while on duty. In another event two days earlier, Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent, who is also believed to be the victim of terrorist attack, was killed in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.

At this most difficult time, on behalf of the Iranian Canadian community, we wish to express our deepest sympathies, and offer our condolences to the families, relatives, and friends of the fallen, as well as the members of the Government and Parliament of Canada. Our thoughts also go out to those who were injured. We strongly denounce and condemn these shocking and heinous terrorist attacks on the lives of those who dedicate their lives to protect our country.

We stand side-by-side with our fellow Canadians during this difficult time.

ICC Board of Directors meet with representative of the DFATD,

Dear Members of the Iranian Canadian Congress,

This is to inform you that on October 22, 2014, the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) received a request for a meeting from a representative of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD). Pursuant to this request, on October 28, 2014, a meeting was held between the President, Secretary, and another board member (Director of Human Rights Committee) of the ICC and the DFATD representative.

During this meeting, the DFATD sought the position of the ICC and its members on a number of issues pertaining to breaches of human rights in Iran.  While referring to the October report of Dr. Ahmad Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, the ICC expressed concerns and condemned the ongoing increased number of executions and the recent instances of acid attacks on a number of Iranian women, as well as the latest unfair trial and horrific execution of Reyhaneh Jabbari. While condemning the breaches of human rights in Iran, the ICC also condemned the recent terrorist attack on Parliament Hill in Ottawa and referred the DFATD representative to the ICC’s message of condemnation sent to the office of Prime Minister Harper.
The ICC also requested that the Canadian government as one of the leaders of the human rights issues in UN should stress on the continuous violation of human rights in Iran when participating in negotiations with the present representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The issue of the Iranian refugees and those, whose life would be at risk if deported from Canada, was another important item that was brought to the attention of the DFATD staff. The ICC strongly requested DFATD to stop any deportation of Iranian refugees due to the constant human rights violations in Iran as confirmed by the latest UN report.

During this meeting, the President of the ICC provided the DFATD with a copy of the mandate of the ICC and informed the DFATD of the organization’s membership structure and the ICC’s role to promote the interest and the well-being of Iranian-Canadians.

In conclusion the ICC pledged to stay in further communication with the DFATD.

On Oct. 19, 2014, the Iranian Canadian Congress hosted a Mayoral Candidates Forum at North York Civic Centre. Based on an official invite sent by the ICC to all candidates running for the mayoral position for the City of Toronto prior to the event, 12 candidates (including the 3 leading candidates) responded positively to take part in the Forum. Despite the short notice, the event received a good turnout and vast media coverage from 4 major TV Stations including CBC News, Global News, CTV, CP24. Additionally, Shahrvand and Toronto Sun newspaper reporters were at the event as well.

Three leading candidates, Ms. Olivia Chow, Mr. Doug Ford and Mr. John Tory were the first candidates to present their platforms. The other 9 candidates who participated in the forum were:

Ari Goldkind, Mohammad Okhovat, Himy Syed, Matthew Crack, Erwin Sniedzins, Michael Nicula, Oweka-Arac Ongwen, Steven Lam, and Renee Dionne.

According to the Forum agenda, each candidate offered a 10 minute speech on their platform for the future of the City of Toronto followed by a 15 minutes question and answer session. The questions asked from each mayoral candidate were collected in writing format from the attendees prior to the opening of the Forum.

The event began by a brief introduction by Secretary of the ICC, Mr. Behrouz Amouzgar, who later introduced the president of the ICC, Mr. Banai. The President of the ICC as the moderator of the event offered brief comments about the event and introduced Mr. Babak Eslahjou, Principle of the Core Architects Inc. as the leading expert to join him to sit on the panel for raising questions to all mayoral candidates.

Mr. Eshlahjou had already drafted 5 major questions that were equally asked from all candidates while other questions raised by the audience were also brought to the attention of each candidate. The five questions drafted by Mr. Eslahjous that were asked from each candidate included the following issues:

1. Traffic: Los Angeles has had a vehicular traffic congestion decades more than Toronto. After years of study, they have concluded that many strategies provide short term relief, but only pricing strategies provide long term solutions. They have implemented these pricing strategies and they have worked. More is on the way. Unpopularity of the subject aside, will you consider toll on our highways? If not, why?

2. Taxes: City of Toronto is the only city in Canada that has both a municipal and a provincial Land Transfer Tax. This is a tax that discourages people from living in Toronto and creates the exodus to 905 that in turn contributes to our traffic problem. Seems like a vicious circle. Coupled with this MPAC is on a mission to increase property taxes based on perceived higher value of homes. For some homes, it is a 100% hike over 5 years. This increase is happening to all Toronto homes while the services that the city offers remain the same or disappear altogether. How do you plan on balancing tax hikes, keeping Toronto affordable and providing better services?

3. Immigration: We always hear the statistics that 50% of Torontonians are born outside of Canada. The immigration story is multifaceted. It is not just about social services. It is not all about the experience of the disadvantaged. The issue is, how do we help new immigrants open up their businesses? How do we make multi-cultural cities that thrive? How do we attract the best and the brightest? Toronto needs to compete for global capital with a host of other internationally focused cities. How would you handle this as a mayor?

4. In the Iranian culture, households are vertically integrated in that you will find all age groups living in the house. Historically, we take care of our aging parents. However, in the modern Canadian context, many families are experiencing difficulties continuing this practice. Iranian Canadians find that beyond the Canadian issue of finding a solution for their parents, they also need to tackle this on an emotional level. What do you think can be done to help here?

5. Parks and trees: Intensification is occurring at a fast pace in our city. Architects and planners are put under scrutiny to provide better and greener buildings. The public realm, sidewalks, power lines and street furniture remain the ugliest parts of Toronto. This falls under the responsibility of the City Hall. How will you deliver the same quality of Urban Space that you expect of the private sector?

The successful planning for the event coupled with the active participation of the volunteers and the punctual attendance of all the candidates were key elements for the success of the Mayoral Forum.

The Mayoral Forum offered great opportunity for the members of the community to directly hear from the candidates about their vision for the future of Toronto while allowing them to build and strengthen relationship with the future mayor for the short and long term interests of the community.

On September 30th, 2014, during the Willowdale Federal Liberal Nomination election, while two of the four running candidates for the Canadian Federal Parliament were of Iranian descent, namely Mr. Ali Ehsassi and Ms. Lily Pourzand , Mr. Reza Banai was openly campaigning for another candidate of non-Iranian descent, Mr. Vince Gasparro, actively encouraging voters to vote for Mr. Gasparro. While we recognize and respect Mr. Reza Banai's rights as an individual which entitle him to support the candidate of his choice in any election, we believe that he is ethically and professionally obligated to adhere to the responsibilities he has undertaken as the president of the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC). As clearly outlined in ICC's bylaws and charter, some of the ICC's objectives are: "…to uphold the interests of the Iranian Canadian community…", and; "…to identify, present and promote the leaders of the Iranian-Canadian community who can be a voice for the community and to assist them in becoming prominent members of the Canadian society in all levels of civic life including Municipal, Provincial and Federal level". In this respect, Mr. Banai’s advocacy for Mr. Gasparro has been squarely against the mission of ICC, has been inappropriate and uncalled for, and has parted him from his obligations as the president of ICC . Based on the above, we, the undersigned of this letter, strongly believe that Mr. Reza Banai has acted in a manner contrary to the fundamental objectives of ICC and has violated its Charter and Constitution. We therefore urge the esteemed members of the Board to take action and remove Mr. Reza Banai from his position as the President.

گزارش اولین نشست کمیته فرهنگی کنگره ایرانیان کانادایی اولین نشست کمیته فرهنگی کنگره ایرانیان کانادایی با شرکت ٢ نفر از اعضای هیات مدیره و ٦ نفر از اعضای کنگره که علاقه خود را به فعالیت های فرهنگی نشان داده بودند در تاریخ ٢٦ آگوست برگزار شد .قسمت اول این جلسه به معارفه و آشنایی اعضای کمیته اختصاص داده شد. در قسمت دوم ضمن خواندن اهداف اساسنامه زمینه و نیازبه فعالیت های فرهنگی و راههای رسیدن به این هدفها مورد گفتگو قرار گرفت. عمده مواردی که پیشنهاد شد بطور خلاصه از قرار زیر است. ١-کمک به مهاجران تازه وارد برای آشنایی با جنبه های مختلف زندگی در کانادا ٢-آشنایی با سیستم آموزشی , مسائل حقوقی, قانونی , و سطوح مختلف حکومتی در کانادا ٣- ایجاد ارتباط و آشنایی با دیگر ملیتها و فرهنگها برای گسترش همزیستی در کانادا ٤- تقویت روابط ملیت های ایرانی در کانادا ٥- برگزاری جشنهای ملی از جمله نوروز و مهرگان در سطح گسترده برای ایجاد همبستگی و حراست از زبان و میراث فرهنگی

ICC statement on the 11th anniversary of the murder of Ziba (Zahra) Kazemi,

The Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) wishes to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the murder of Ziba (Zahra) Kazemi. She would have turned 66 this year.

As reported by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, Ms. Kazemi was arrested on June 23, 2003, while performing her work as a journalist outside Evin prison in the Iranian capital, Tehran.  She was reportedly beaten and subjected to other forms of ill-treatment in detention resulting in injuries which ultimately caused her death on July 11, 2003.

Many reports indicated that the proceedings did not meet international standards of a fair trial as key evidence that might have incriminated judiciary officials, the prosecutor's office, as well as the intelligence ministry was ignored by the court. 

The ICC strongly condemns the horrific crime and the injustice committed by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Ms. Kazemi, a respected member of the Iranian-Canadian Community, and demands prompt and impartial re-investigation of the matter in strict compliance with international human rights norms, and in particular with article 2, paragraph 3, of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights ratified by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Our deepest sympathy goes to Ms. Kazemi’s son, Stephan Hashemi, along with our wishes for her case being brought to justice in the near future.

To commemorate the 11th anniversary of Ms. Kazemi’s passing, an exhibition of her work will be on display in Toronto, featuring photographs taken across the globe during her travels. This will be the first time Ms. Kazemi’s photography will be on exhibit. The exhibition will be on display at Banu, a restaurant located at 777 Queen Street West, in Toronto, Canada.

ICC STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO THE LETTER RECEIVED FROM MEMBERS

بیانیه کنگره ایرانیان کانادا

به آگاهی همگی اعضا و دوستداران و علاقه مندان کنگره ایرانیان کانادا میرساند که هیات مدیره  کنگره در تاریخ اول  جولای ۲۰۱۴ نامه ای با  امضاء پنج نفر از اعضا را از راه پست الکترونیک دریافت نمود و دو روز پس از آن نیز نوشته ای  به امضاء یکی از امضاء کنندگان نامه مذکور در دو نشریه شهروند و سلام تورنتو منتشر شد .

در ابتدا با سپاسگزاری  از نویسندگان نامه و نوشته مذکور  یادآور می شود که کنگره ایرانیان کانادا با آغوشی باز پذیرای هر گونه انتقادی از سوی اعضاء کنگره و افراد جامعه ایرانی کانادایی می باشد  اما بر این باور است  که  انتقاداتی که با گفتاری محترمانه و ادبیاتی پاکیزه و سازنده  بیان شوند کار ساز تر بوده  و نتیجتا بستر همکاری بین افکار و نظرات متفاوت را گسترده تر مینماید . اکنون صرف نظر از لحن و شیوه بیان انتقادات در نامه و نوشته  مزبور فرصت را مغتنم  شمرده  و علاوه بر پاسخ گویی به نکات مندرج درآن نامه و  نوشته  ، اطلاعات و  کار های انجام یافته را - در زمان اند کی که از عمر هیات مدیره جدید میگذرد -   به آگاهی اعضاء میرسانیم.

تغییر در ترکیب هیئت مدیره پس از مجمعع عمومی سالانه اخیر

خانم سارا تخشا در نخستین جلسه هیات مدیره جدید که پس از مجمع عمومی سالانه و در تاریخ ۲۵/۵/۲۰۱۴ برگزار گردید به دلایل شخصی استعفای خود را به هیات مدیره جدید ارسال کردند و از این رو نخستین جلسه هیات مدیره با حضور ۸ نفر برگزار گردید.

اساسنامه کنگره انتصاب جایگزین برای هر مستعفی را  بر عهده رئیس هیات مدیره می گذارد و با این پیش فرض که  در زمان استعفای هر عضو  رئیس هیات مدیره مشخص است ، به ارائه راهکار می پردازد. همانطور که مستحضرید در شرایط مذکور و  در هنگام وقوع استعفای خانم تخشا  هیات مدیره فاقد رئیس بوده و از این رو اعضای هیات مدیره در جلسه نخست به طور همزمان با دو موضوع انتخاب هیات رئیسه و انتصاب جایگزین برای پر کردن عضو مستعفی مواجه بوده اند.

در این شرایط هیات مدیره به دو دلیل تصمیم بر این گرفت که ابتدا در خصوص انتصاب جایگزین برای خانم تخشا در غیاب مشخص بودن اعضای هیات رئیسه اقدام کند و سپس به انتخاب هیات رئیسه بپردازد:

·       حضور ۸ عضو در هیات مدیره با توجه به زوج بودن تعداد اعضا در غیاب شخص نهم و احتمال تساوی آرا انتخاب هیات رئیسه را به امری دشوار تبدیل کرده بود

·      تصمیم گیری برای انتصاب جایگزین خانم تخشا بر اساس  رای اکثریت اعضای هیات مدیره در مقایسه با انجام این تصمیم گیری توسط یک شخص (رئیس )،  با اصول دموکراتیک به مراتب سازگار تر  بوده و  سپردن این تصمیم گیری به منتخبین اعضای کنگره ( تمامی اعضا هیات مدیره) گامی  مهم  در راستای  استفاده بیشتر  از نظر اعضا در انجام این انتصاب می باشد.

زمان قید شده در اساسنامه برای ارائه نامهای افراد پیشنهادی توسط اعضای هیات مدیره به منظور انتصاب، حد اکثر ۲۱ روز و زمان قید شده برای انجام انتخاب نهایی حد اکثر ۳۰ روز می باشد. از این رو در تاریخ ۹ ژوئن ۲۰۱۴ و پس از گذشت ۱۵ روز از تاریخ استعفاء و با در نظر گرفتن شایستگی ها، سابقه همکاری با کنگره و سابقه مدیریت، از میان افراد پیشنهادی  آقای رضا بنائی با  رای اکثریت اعضای هیات مدیره به عنوان جایگزین خانم تخشا به عضویت هیات مدیره منصوب گردید.

بدیهی است که با عضویت آقای رضا بنائی به هیات مدیره جدید، نامبرده نیز مانند دیگر اعضاء از تمامی حقوق مشابه  از جمله حق انتخاب شدن به عضویت هیات رئیسه بهره مند بوده و بر طبق اساسنامه میتوانند برای هر سمتی در هیات مدیره انتخاب گردند.  لذا پس از  بررسی گذشته  و تخصص و کارایی کلیه داوطلبین برای سمت های مختلف در داخل هیات مدیره، برای هر سمت رای گیری به عمل آمد و در نهایت آقای رضا بنائی با اکثریت آرا به سمت ریاست هیات مدیره و آقایان شهرام نامورآزاد به عنوان نایب رئیس، رضا قاضی به عنوان خزانه دار و بهروز آموزگار به عنوان دبیر انتخاب شدند. همچنین آقای فرهنگ فرید توسط رئیس هیات مدیره به سمت سخنگوی کنگره منصوب شد.

شفافیت و موضع کنگره ایرانیان کانادا در خصوص آن

در ارتباط با  مسأله شفافیت و افزایش میزان ارتباط میان هیات مدیره و اعضا  نیز خاطر نشان میسازد که با وجود گذشت کمتر از دو ماه از انتخابات مجمع عمومی و قریب به دو هفته از تشکیل هیات رئیسه، کنگره ایرانیان کانادا مفتخر است به اطلاع عموم برساند که  پس از هر جلسه تصمیمات هیات مدیره در وبسایت کنگره به اطلاع عموم خواهد رسید.

تشکیل کارگروه (کمیته) های پیش بینی شده در اساسنامه

در اساسنامه چهار کارگروه  امور مالی و اداری، سیاست گذاری، روابط عمومی- ارتباطات و امور فرهنگی پیش بینی شده اند. به اطلاع می رساند که مطابق با اساسنامه از میان اعضای هیات مدیره افراد ذیل به سرپرستی این کارگروه ها انتخاب شده اند و موظفند در اسرع وقت نسبت به تشکیل آنها اقدام نمایند:

·      کارگروه امور مالی و اداری - رضا بنائی
·      کارگروه سیاست گذاری - بهروز آموزگار
·      کارگروه روابط عمومی و ارتباطات - فرهنگ فرید
·      کارگروه امور فرهنگی - شهلا غفوری

هیات مدیره با اذعان به این امر که کارگروه های پیشنهادی در اساسنامه به منظور افزایش مشارکت میان اعضا و هیات مدیره طراحی شده اند به زودی فراخوانی برای مشارکت در این کارگروه ها را در اختیار اعضا قرار خواهد داد.

مجمع عمومی فوق العاده پیش رو در مورد بازنگری اساسنامه

بر طبق مصوبه مجمع عمومی مورخ ۱۱/۵/۲۰۱۴ مجمع عمومی فوق العاده ای به منظور باز نگری اساسنامه و اصلاح آن باید طی ۶ ماه و پیش از ۱۱/۱۱/۲۰۱۴ تشکیل شود. هیات مدیره در هفته های پیش رو از اعضای اسبق کارگروه بازنگری اساسنامه که زمان قابل توجهی را صرف مطالعه و تحقیق در مورد اساسنامه و کاستی های آن نموده اند و همچین سایر اعضا  دعوت به عمل خواهد آورد تا با همکاری علاقمندان کارگروه جدیدی برای این منظور تشکیل گردد و با بررسی و تحقیق  بیشتر نسخه ای پیشنهادی به فارسی و انگلیسی  برای طرح در مجمع عمومی فوق العاده تهیه شود.

گزارشات مالی سالهای گذشته

با توجه به اینکه گزارشات مالی کنگره از بدو تاسیس آن  به سازمانهای دولتی مربوط ارائه نشده ، هیات مدیره تصمیم بر آن گرفته است که تا حد امکان پس از به روز نمودن اسناد و مدارک موجود،  گزارشات مالی تمامی سالهای گذشته را تهیه و  به سازمان های دولتی مربوطه ارائه نماید. گزارش هیات مدیره در این مورد در مجمع عمومی سالیانه آینده در اختیار اعضا قرار خواهد گرفت.

قانون جدید شهروندی کانادا

لایحه باز نگری و دگرگونی قانون شهروندی کانادا در ابتدای سال جاری از سوی حزب محافظه کار به مجلس آورده شد و در واپسین روزهای ماه ژوئن پس از پیمودن پروسه قانونی به تصویب رسید و هم اکنون نیز  برای اجرا به دولت ابلاغ گردیده است. از آنجائیکه این دگرگونیها میتواند بر زندگی برخی از از ایرانیان – کانادایی و یا خویشاوندان آنان و یا دوستان یا آشنایانشان تأثیر گذار باشد ، کنگره ایرانیان کانادا در گام نخست در نظر دارد تا با انتشار  نکات ویژه و مهم این دگرگونی ها اعضا و ایرانیان –کانادائی را با این دگرگونی ها آشنا نماید. در گام بعدی کنگره با دعوت از صاحب نظران و کارشناسان آشنا به این قوانین میز گردی را برای آگاهی بیشتر و یافتن راه های مناسب برای رسانیدن نظرات اعضا و جامعه ایرانی به مسولین مربوطه  تشکیل داده و همزمان با آن  اقدام به  نظر سنجی در میان اعضاء خوا هد نمود.

قانون جدید آنتی اسپم کانادا

همانطور که مطلع می باشید قانون جدید انتی اسپم کانادا از تاریخ ۱ جولای ۲۰۱۴ توسط دولت کانادا به اجرا گذاشته شده است. مطابق با این قانون کنگره برای مکاتبه الکترونیک با افرادی که عضو سازمان نیستند احتیاج به رضایت کتبی این افراد دارد. اعضایی که عضویت خود را در مجمع گذشته تمدید نکرده اند در زمره این افراد قرار می گیرند. قبل از به اجرا گذاشتن این قانون، کنگره ایمیلی را برای تمامی اعضای سابق در خصوص این موضوع ارسال کرد که در طی آن علاوه بر یاداوری برای تمدید عضویت، از این افراد تقاضا شد که به صورت الکترونیک رضایت خود را در مورد دریافت ایمیل به کنگره ارسال کنند. خواهشمند است در صورت عدم دریافت این ایمیل و یا برای کسب اطلاع در مورد وضعیت عضویت خود با کنگره توسط ایمیل ارائه شده در انتهای این مطلب تماس حاصل کنید.

روش اجرائی هیات مدیره در مسیر پیش رو

در پایان  تاکید می نماییم که هیات مدیره با تلاش و کوشش همگی اعضاء آن مصمم است تا گستره مشارکت کلیه اعضاء را در فعالیتهای کنگره بیش از پیش افزایش داده و در این راه نه تنها هیچ دستی را که برای یاری و همکاری دراز شده پس نزده بلکه با گشاده رویی از آن استقبال نموده و صمیمانه آنرا میفشارد .هیات مدیره کنونی متشکل از افرادی با زمینه های مختلف کاری، تحصیلاتی، تخصصی و سیاسی می باشد که با اذعان به فرا حزبی بودن کنگره ایرانیان کانادا و با احترام به اختلاف نظر های میان خود به صورت گروهی منسجم برای بهبودی جامعه ایرانیان کانادا کوشش می کنند.

هیات مدیره  تصمیم قاطع دارد تا با ایجاد فضایی آرام و دوستانه و با بکار گیری مدیریت منسجم و تقسیم کار و با دعوت و یاری گرفتن از اعضا و همچنین صاحب نظران  و صاحبان مشاغل و دوستداران جامعه ایرانی کانادایی  الویت نخستین را به برداشتن  گامهای لازمه  برای  پیشبرد اهداف مشروحه در اساسنامه دهد. با کمک و یاری شما امیدواریم که تلاشهایمان به ثمر برسد و ایرانیان کانادا این مشارکت جمعی را با سربلندی به پیش ببرند.

 به آگاهی همگی اعضا و دوستداران و علاقه مندان کنگره ایرانیان کانادا میرساند که هیات مدیره کنگره در تاریخ اول جولای ۲۰۱۴ نامه ای با امضاء پنج نفر از اعضا را از راه پست الکترونیک دریافت نمود و دو روز پس از آن نیز نوشته ای به امضاء یکی از امضاء کنندگان نامه مذکور در دو نشریه شهروند و سلام تورنتو منتشر شد . در ابتدا با سپاسگزاری از نویسندگان نامه و نوشته مذکور یادآور می شود که کنگره ایرانیان کانادا با آغوشی باز پذیرای هر گونه انتقادی از سوی اعضاء کنگره و افراد جامعه ایرانی کانادایی می باشد اما بر این باور است که انتقاداتی که با گفتاری محترمانه و ادبیاتی پاکیزه و سازنده بیان شوند کار ساز تر بوده و نتیجتا بستر همکاری بین افکار و نظرات متفاوت را گسترده تر مینماید . اکنون صرف نظر از لحن و شیوه بیان انتقادات در نامه و نوشته مزبور فرصت را مغتنم شمرده و علاوه بر پاسخ گویی به نکات مندرج درآن نامه و نوشته ، اطلاعات و کارهای انجام یافته را - در زمان اندکی که از عمر هیات مدیره جدید میگذرد - به آگاهی اعضاء میرسانیم.

On the occasion of the 147th birthday of our beautiful country, the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) wishes all Canadians across the globe a happy Canada Day.

Canada Day is an opportunity to celebrate and commemorate the qualities that make our country an example to the rest of the world: diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity to all.

On this Canada Day, we are proud of our country’s compassionate and distinguished record on the rights of refugees and displaced persons. On June 20, 2014, World Refugee Day, the ICC joined other national organizations in recognizing Canada’s role as a world leader in resettling refugees and displaced persons from war torn communities.

This past weekend, we witnessed a magnificent display of respect for the rights of the LGBT community as Canada celebrated World Pride. The ICC joins all Canadians in recognizing and upholding the rights of the members of the LGBT community across the globe. In particular, we applaud the Iranian-Canadian members of the LGBT community for participating in this civic celebration of sexual identity and difference.

Canada Day provides us with the opportunity to recognize the exemplary principles – a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equal respect for all – that continue to make everyday life in Canadian society a privileged and much-cherished experience. We are inspired by these values, and endeavor to contribute to their continued realization as involved members of our communities.

Toronto, May 11, 2014 –The Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) is pleased to announce the final board of directors election results from its 2014 annual general meeting held on May 11, 2014 at the North York Civic Centre. According to ballots and proxies cast at the meeting, the following six candidates were elected to the board of directors:

Mr. Reza Banai      President

Reza Banai

Reza Banai was born and raised in Tehran and currently is the President and owner of C-living Inc. based in Toronto. He completed his high school education in California and later received a BE in Industrial Engineering from YSU in Ohio.

He served as the Deputy Managing Director at Tehran branch of Japan External Trade Organization during 1980-1990 and later became an entrepreneur, investor and industrialist.

As a developer, he has been engaged in the construction and completion of both low-rise and high-rise projects in the city of Toronto ever since 1998. He later established C-living Inc. as a manufacturer and supplier of interior movable walls and furnishing for both commercial and residential spaces.

Under his leadership, C-living Inc. was able to establish and expand extensive business relations with the prominent architectural firms, builders and developers as well as interior designers all across the province of Ontario as well as the entire Canadian market. His knowledge of the Canadian construction industry both in the residential and commercial sector has been the key success for the C-living growth in the past 15 years.

As an active community member, he has been participating and contributing in many of the social and cultural events and gatherings within the Iranian-Canadian community. As an example Reza Banai in the summer of 2012 spearheaded a successful campaign to change a welcome sign at the Arrival Terminal of the Toronto Pearson Airport that misrepresented the Iranian-Canadian community in Canada. The campaign was supported by hundreds of the community members and convinced the GTA authorities to replace the misleading sign.

Reza Banai has also served as an advisory member of the ICC for a year and is the founder of the ICC Achievement Award event that is held each year by the ICC.

Mr. Shahram Namvarazad           

He was born in “Tehran/ Iran ”1964 and finished his high school , due to his father’s type of work he had the privilege for living in many parts of his beloved country and get to know different cultures and ways of life in different parts of Iran .

 After so called revolution and the significant social and political changes in Iran he decided to leave the country but on first attempt he got caught and ended up serving prison terms but after he was released, he left and about 30 Years ago he chose Canada  as his  new home to live. The Country which granted him the equal opportunity to be part of a society which human rights and equality was and still is the first priority.

After finishing his studies in Seneca College he became an Optician and later on he received another diploma For Refraction from the same College.

With the rate Iranian Community is growing in Canada he believes there is a great  opportunity for Iranian Community to claim it rightful place In such great and diverse society .

 In recent years ICC had played a significant role to built the bridge to promote and protect the rights of Iranian Community and he believes there is still a lot to be done and it’s only possible by having strong people such as himself by being part of a great team in ICC to make the difference.

Mr. Behrouz Amouzgar       

Behrouz Amouzgar is a business and real estate lawyer and the founder of Lexpand Legal Professional Corporation. He advises clients on a broad range of corporate/commercial and real estate matters with a focus on corporate structuring and real estate and business transactions.

Behrouz Amouzgar holds a Juris Doctor and a Certificate of International Business Law from Queen’s University, Faculty of Law, and a B.Sc. with Honours in Computer Science from York University, Faculty of Pure and Applied Science.

During his legal studies at Queen’s Law, Behrouz Amouzgar was involved in various student initiatives. He was an elected member of the Law Students’ Society, an editor-in-chief of the student-run newspaper of Queen’s Law and he volunteered as a caseworker in Queen’s Legal Aid.

Behrouz supports a variety of community initiatives as a volunteer and is one of the founding members of the Iranian Legal Professionals of Ontario and a member of the board of directors of the Iranian Canadian Legal Professionals. In 2010, Behrouz Amouzgar acted as the campaign manager of a City Council candidate in the City of Toronto municipal elections. Behrouz is the Legal Advisor and Public Relations Director of Tirgan Festival and as a volunteer, he provides probono legal services to a number of other non-profit organizations.

Prior to forming the law firm of Lexpand, Behrouz Amouzgar worked as a corporate lawyer at Gardiner Roberts LLP.

Mr. Reza Ghazi     

Reza was born in Tehran, Iran, and migrated to Canada in 1995. Like every other immigrant, he knows the difficulties families have to tackle to adapt to the new culture and environment. This challenge provoked him to get involved with Non-for Profit organizations and alleviate some of these challenges for his community members.  Reza has served non-for- profit organizations such as Business & Mentoring/Innovation movement/Youth for many years in different capacities. At Iranian-Community Network (IC Network) where he last served as the President, he continuously aimed to provide adequate means and resources to assist Iranian-Canadians liaise and network with others to succeed in their professional endeavors. In March, Reza was granted the 2014 Ontario Volunteer Service Awards from the Ministry of Citizenship & Immigration, Province of Ontario - in recognition of a 5 year Award for continued services with Iranian Canadian Network (IC Network). 

 Reza holds a BA and a post-graduate certificate in Financial Underwriting. He currently serves as the CEO of GreenFlow Financial. Reza also serves as a Director to Target Park Group Inc. as well as GreenPower Capital. With over a decade of daily operational and management experience within the Finance industry, Reza has developed many solid business affiliations and entrepreneurial skills.  He is passionate about community work and getting involved in initiatives that help the overall success of the society at large.

Mr. Farhang Farid   

Farhang is a Senior Managing Consultant with IBM Interactive where he oversees the design and delivery of large solutions across multiple industry sectors.  With over 8 years of experience, Farhang’s energetic style and innovative approach has helped IBM to be one of the leading edge companies in this space.

 He has an undergraduate degree in computer science from University of Toronto and an MBA from Rotman School of Management in Strategic Management.

 Farhang’s interests include public policy and healthcare strategy. He is an active member of community and has contributed to election campaigns and local initiatives such as Cycling for Human Rights in Iran, International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran and ASL 19.

 Farhang is a co-founder of the Charity “Children of Lahijan”, an organization that focuses on providing basic means of living to the underprivileged children Lahijan, Iran. He also has experience working in Africa with local NGO’s on government initiatives such as job creation and retention strategy.  In his spare time, he trains and competes as an age group triathlete.

Ms. Shahla Ghafouri   

Ms. Shahla Ghafouri was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. She obtained her BA from Tehran University, specialising in Persian Literature. She worked for several years as a teacher of elementary and high schools in Tehran and Isfahan. After immigrating to Canada in 1991, Ms. Ghafouri pursued her career in education by attending Teachers College at York University and obtained her Bachelor of Education in 1996. Since then, she has been working as an elementary school teacher for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).

Ms. Ghafouri has been active in the local community for many years through her work with the School Community Engagement initiative via the TDSB and York University as well as served as a heritage language teacher at TDSB. While working as a heritage language teacher, she planned and directed many Iranian cultural events such as the celebration of Nowruz, Chahar Shambeh Souri and Mehregan for both the Iranian and Canadian communities in Toronto. Ms. Ghafouri actively contributes to various humanitarian causes and is the founder and director of an organization that helps Iranian refugees in Turkey by aiding in their immigration to Canada and creating a welcoming and supportive environment for them in their new Country.

Ms. Sima Tajdini      

Sima Tajdini also known as Sima Dini is a Toronto based Artist (painter) and a human right and social justice Activist. She was born and raised in Iran and has been living in Canada since 2004. She's had the experience of working and volunteering as a nurse during the Iran-Iraq war; a stay-at-home mother for a few years and then an English tutor/translator and also a painter.

The challenges she faced upon arrival to Canada and the years that followed, created a new passion in her and resulted in becoming a trained public speaker with regards to the issues refugees and newcomers in general have to encounter. She's appeared as a guest in TV programs and has written articles in hope of improving the condition for the newcomers.

Sima appreciates and enjoys the freedom she has in her second home, Canada; and has extended experience volunteering in a number of places including out of the cold program, an Art centre, a refugee settlement organization and an alternative medicine centre.

She has expanded her Painting profession to a small business running from home by turning her paintings to ArtCards and has been teaching Painting as well.

She strongly believes in the importance of individuals being involved in establishing and maintaining a just and humane society which is full of creativity and productivity. A society that everyone can enjoy diversity and freedom to blossom to the best they can be.

جلسه سالانه مجمع عمومی اعضا کنگره ایرانیان کانادا دیروز یکشنبه ١١ می ٢٠١٤ در سالن اجتماعات شهرداری نورت یورک برگزار شد.
با حضور بیش از 150 نفر که برخی برگه نیابت برای رای دادن از طرف سایر اعضا را داشتند, رای گیری از اعضا برای انتخاب ٦ نفر از ٩ نفر هیات  مدیره کنگره ایرانیان کانادا بعمل آمد  . تعداد کل آراء 275
